Summary:

Rush University Medical Center and the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine is currently seeking a full-time Primary Care Advanced Practice Provider to join the Rush South Loop practice.

*Advanced Practice Provider experience is required

*Applicants must hold an FNP or PA certification.

The Advanced Practice Provider (Family Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) functions as a member of the health care team to provide high quality, comprehensive acute and/or routine medical/surgical care of Rush University Medical Center patients within the scope of practice granted in accordance with the RUMC medical staff bylaws. Promotes collaboration between multiple disciplines to ensure cost effective and quality patient care. Successful candidates will also meet all other state and federal regulatory practice and accreditation standards. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with the policies, procedures, guidelines of Rush, including the Rush University Medical Group Customer Service standards.

Responsibilities:

CLINICAL

  1. Completes and documents an accurate history and physical examination of patients.

  2. Conducts comprehensive or episodic health assessments and develops patient care plans.

  3. Orders and interprets tests, treatments, and therapies within the scope of practice

  4. Prescribes medications, including controlled substances to the extent delegated including non-pharmacologic treatment modalities.

  5. Orders, interprets, and performs laboratory and other diagnostic tests and procedures.

  6. Provides clear, concise, and accurate information in the electronic medical record.

  7. Initiate and perform consultations in accordance with Rush rules and regulations.

  8. Make appropriate referrals to other health care professionals and/or agencies.

  9. Provides direct patient care in assigned areas, which may be in a hospital or ambulatory setting.

PROFESSIONAL

  1. Works collaboratively with his/her collaborating/supervising physician, department, and other members of the healthcare team in an effective and comprehensive manner.

  2. Acts as an advocate for patients, families, coworkers, and the physician assistant profession.

  3. Participates in all required provider activities as outlined in the RUMC Medical Staff Bylaws.

  4. Integrates evidence based knowledge and clinical expertise in decision making.

  5. Demonstrates competency in all medical and surgical procedures and skill considered essential in their area of practice.

  6. Maintains board certification, state licensure, and continuing medical education as outlined by hospital, state, and federal policy.

LEADERSHIP

  1. Supports the organization's overall strategic plan and direction.

  2. Serves as a leader of the healthcare team to provide integrated delivery of patient care service

  3. Actively participates in ongoing and systematic quality improvement efforts which focus on patient care delivery and supports processes that provide optimal patient outcomes.

  4. Demonstrates accountability for own professional practice and improvement. Including ongoing self-assessment of core competencies and yearly goals.

  5. Develops and leads implementation of department goals by collaborating with department staff, students, and physicians.

  6. Serves as a role model and thought leader for their own profession including practice analysis and advancement to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

  7. Manages resources effectively thereby considering the institution and practice's fiscal responsibilities.

  8. Demonstrates an understanding of patient documentation, compliance, and billing best practices.

EDUCATION

  1. Provides relevant and comprehensive patient education to patients, families and significant others.

  2. Fosters growth and development of students and other healthcare professionals.

  3. Continuously assesses their personal capabilities and limitations, striving always to approve their medical practice.

  4. Use their knowledge and expertise to contribute to an improved community.

Other information:

Required Job Qualifications:

• Current State of Illinois Physician Assistant Licensure.

• Current Certification from National Certification Commission for Physician Assistants (NCCPA) or other agency recognized by the American Academy of PAs (AAPA).

• Degree from an ARC-PA (or predecessor) accredited PA Program.

• BLS Certification.

• Demonstrates competency in all areas of APP practice including: medical knowledge, interpersonal and communication skills, patient care, professionalism, practice based learning and improvement, and systems based practice.

• Skill in preparing and maintaining electronic and paper medical records

• Knowledge of current and emerging trends in technologies, techniques, issues, and approaches in area of expertise.

• Strong work ethic, interpersonal and communication skills.

• Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively with collaborating physician, department, and other members of the healthcare team in an effective and comprehensive manner.

Preferred Job Qualifications:

• Master's Degree.
