Job Description Summary

The Clinical Educator is responsible for developing educational strategies and initiatives to best meet the needs of the interdisciplinary allied health staff in the designated practice area. The educator may assist in designing curriculum including planning, implementing and evaluating educational programs and instructional materials that are relevant to professional clinical practice areas of expertise. The educator will provide mentorship and feedback to clinicians related to these educational initiatives.

Job Description

The Clinical Educator:

  • Mentors and monitors assigned allied health professionals in various practice initiatives in their designated practice area.
  • Provides support for Clinical Practice Leaders of all disciplines in implementation of evidence-based practice changes within assigned practice area.
  • Disseminates information when regulatory changes occur and educates staff on needed practice changes.
  • Assists with planning, implementing, coordinating and/or evaluating staff development programs to meet the needs of SRAlab allied health staff. Assists with planning, coordinating and/or evaluating initial and ongoing interdisciplinary and discipline-specific competency skills training.
  • Conducts documentation audits to help ensure high quality documentation that meets regulatory and insurance standards, as well as clearly communicates patient performance and progress.
  • At the direction of the Internal Staff Development leadership team, defines the measures and expected outcomes/quality indicators for educational activities.
  • Conducts and analyzes evaluation data and recommend changes in programs or competency testing instruments based on the data.
  • Assists in educational materials using a variety of print and electronic formats to meet curriculum objectives.
  • Provides input to the Clinical Leader of Mentorship and Education, as well as the Clinical Practice Leaders, in planning/developing CE programs.
  • May teach and assist in course development in Internal Staff Development.
  • Provides direct feedback to staff related to above areas.
  • Performs all other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab, including a primary clinical role.

Reporting Relationships

  • Reports directly to the Clinical Manager for their site of care. Secondary report to Associate Director, Internal Staff Development.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required

Level of knowle ge normally acquired through completion of a Master\'s degree from an accredited college or university, and the minimum degree required for the discipline.

Current State license for Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, or Speech-Language Pathology.

Profiling at Senior I or Senior II therapist level, with a minimum of 3 years relevant clinical experience, and demonstrated interest in education. Primary appointment would be clinical role.

Current CPR certification required.

Content expert in indicated practice area.

Knowledge of rehabilitation practices, theories and skill in adult education teaching strategies and curriculum development.

Knowledge of educational strategies and experience in planning and implementing education programs for rehabilitation personnel.

Interpersonal skills needed to effectively communicate with all levels of health care professionals, to motivate, instruct and supervise staff.

Analytical skills needed to assess existing programs, to research and develop new educational materials and programs.

Understanding of budgetary principles and processes.
