About the Role

The Packaging Engineer serves as the in-house expert and is the point person for technical information with both the suppliers and the clients with the objective to make structural improvements to obtain the most efficient production ready packaging.   The Packaging Engineer supports all packaging programs and deliverables ensuring superior customer service.

Responsibilities

Sourcing, Quality, Visual and Technical Development, Engineering

  • Generate preliminary specifications to use for quoting.

  • Collaborate with client engineering teams to obtain and interpret existing die-lines, artwork, and other articles related to active projects.

  • Build specifications specific to packaging that are released with PO. Specs to provide optimum material thickness, coatings, paper board weight, print processes, plastic window thickness, shipper printing processes, etc. to maximize printing efficiencies.

  • Fit/Function and Blueprint Review; Create die lines, release artwork.

  • Review packaging samples from supplier for technical and aesthetic approval. Confirm the correct die has been used and sign off that the specs used are approved.

  • Route folding carton die lines and print color submissions through proper channels for approval.

  • Attend press approvals when needed for color, technical or aesthetic approval.

  • Attend co-packing when necessary.

  • Draft assembly instructions

  • Facilitate all testing either in-house or at 3rd party vendors for printed and white samples (vibration, drop testing, temperature/humidity)

  • Manages, maintains, and performs dimensional analysis on client premiums as it relates to packaging.

  • Co-develop department protocols to ensure optimum development.

  • Create/Confirm testing protocols.

  • Recommend cost-savings programs.

  • Forecast future needs and changes to enable better management and pricing of projects.

  • Suggest future procedures to allow for successful development of more projects with more customers.

  • Provide technical expertise and industry knowledge.

    Education and Experience Requirements:

  • BS in Packaging

  • 3 years industry experience in both a supplier interfacing and client interfacing role.

    Specific Skills/Knowledge:

  • Professional and positive demeanor.

  • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment with a hands-on and ‘can-do attitude’.

  • Ability to communicate timely, openly, honestly, and respectfully.

  • Strong planning, time management, and collaboration skills.

  • Highly motivated, innovative, and adaptable.

  • Ability to prioritize workflow and maintain a sense of urgency appropriate to each project.

  • Demonstrate good judgment, discretion, detail-oriented, and follow-through.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word)

  • At least intermediate experience in ARTIOS CAD

  • At least intermediate experience in CAPE or TOPS software

    Travel

  • As Required for Press Run Approvals or as the business deems necessary. 

  • Less than 10%.
