This position is open to the public and all current city employees covered under the City’s Collective Bargaining Agreement with AMERICAN FEDERATION OF STATE, COUNTY, AND MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES (AFSCME) – BARGAINING UNIT 1, 3, 4 & 5. Only employees in City job titles in this bargaining unit are eligible to bid.

Under supervision, the Onboarding Specialist is responsible for providing human resources (HR) services and support to professional HR staff in the delivery of employment services and activities to City departments, and performs related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

· Assists Employment Services’ staff with tasks related to the employment onboarding process to ensure full compliance with the requirements of the City’s Employment Plan and federal requirements.

· Distributes onboarding packets to prospective employees.

· Reviews documents for accuracy and completeness and uploads to City’s digital filing systems

· Conducts criminal, education, employment, and other employment related verifications.

· Processes hire information in the Applicant Tracking System (ATS)

· Schedules prospective employees for pre-employment screening (e.g., fingerprinting, drug tests, physical exams, etc.)

· Provides information and responds to inquiries from operating departments, City employees, candidates and the general public regarding the City’s employment hiring process, guidelines, procedures, and processes.

· Represents DHR at various community events and job fairs and prepares materials and presentations for distribution as needed.

· May serve as back-up to administrative staff on the delivery of fingerprinting services.

· Coordinates and participates in the development and delivery of employment programs (e.g., new employee orientation, promotional process, etc.)

· Maintains and coordinates with Recruitment Manager on requests for office supplies and file management/storage activities.

Days: Monday - Friday

Hours: 8:30am - 4:30pm

Salary: $58,956.00

THIS POSITION IS IN THE CAREER SERVICE.

Qualifications:

Two years of work experience in human resources/personnel work AND/OR an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university plus two years of administrative office experience in a fast-paced office environment.

Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:

  • Proficiency with record keeping and file management.

  • Clerical experience in a fast paced, high-volume environment.

  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Excel.

  • Customer service experience researching and resolving issues.

  • Experience using spreadsheets, databases, business intelligence reports and/or other tools to collect, organize and analyze data.

  • Experience in a position requiring the ability to collect, analyze and interpret information.

SELECTION REQUIREMENTS

This position requires applicants/bidders to complete an interview which will include an exercise/assessment as part of the interview. Interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities will be hired.
