Job Description

Position Overview

Invenergy is seeking an Offshore Geospatial Analyst with at least 0-1 years of research or professional experience to join the Offshore Engineering team. In this role, the chosen candidate will apply their knowledge of marine sciences/engineering to offshore infrastructure projects. In addition, the candidate must have basic to intermediate Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) skill sets, working in QGIS and/or ESRI based products. The Offshore Geospatial Analyst will conduct research and execute tasks to support the overall development of Invenergy’s offshore wind portfolio. Candidates with backgrounds in coastal and civil engineering, geography, cartography, oceanography, marine geology, marine environmental science, amongst other related fields are welcome to apply. GIS skills and capabilities are mandatory for this position.

The Offshore Geospatial Analyst will work closely with and report to the Senior Manager for Offshore Routing & Siting. The candidate is expected to be proactive in learning new skills, taking initiative to research and become educated on relevant topics to support projects’ needs. The candidate must also have a problem-solving mindset to learn and navigate through complex, multidisciplinary subjects. Strong communication skills are needed to convey research findings and/or analyses in a timely manner to enable an effective decision-making process.

Responsibilities

Geospatial and GIS related tasks:

  • Analyze marine and coastal data to assess possible environmental, physical, and/or permitting related constraints and characteristics that could affect submarine cable routing/siting options for offshore wind and transmission projects.

  • Learn submarine cable engineering routing conditions, principles, and requirements.

  • Utilize GIS skills to conduct the above-mentioned assessments.

  • Leverage engineering and scientific background and GIS skills to summarize findings in memos, presentations, maps, GIS projects (e.g., ppkxs, mpks) and other mediums.

Multidisciplinary efforts and coordination with other groups and stakeholders:

  • Support offshore wind project tasks, which could include taking meeting minutes, executing research tasks, organizing and summarizing information and/or data.

  • Work in collaboration with the Offshore Engineering Team and other company groups (GIS, transmission, development, permitting, etc.) as required to assess constraints and characteristics of given marine spaces:

  • Utilize GIS skill sets to evaluate marine environments’ constraints and characteristics.

  • Employ knowledge of the marine environment and GIS to search for available data for given topics, areas of interest and/or specific work tasks.

  • Organize data efficiently and in alignment with GIS data management protocols.

Permitting, marine regulatory and real estate:

  • Complete tasks to support the investigation into regulatory restrictions that can hinder development of alternative offshore transmission scenarios.

  • Support the team in preparation of application materials to obtain local, state and/or federal permits and approvals for offshore transmission scenarios, which could include writing sections of reports and/or creating maps in GIS software.

Engineering and GIS best practices:

  • Create and update internal tools and templates for the Offshore Siting & Routing group.

  • Attend relevant external trainings and workshops.

  • Support internal trainings and workshops, as required by the company.

    Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a scientific field of expertise

  • Experience with GIS based software

  • Eligible to work in the United States without the need for employer visa sponsorship now or in the future.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in any engineering or scientific background including but not limited to coastal and civil engineering, geography, cartography, oceanography, marine science, marine geology, or any other related engineering or scientific field of expertise

  • Basic to intermediate GIS capabilities with proven experience working in ESRI ArcMap, ArcPro, Portal, and other ESRI products; ability to conduct some complex geospatial analyses. Experience with other tools such as QGIS/Global Mapper are also preferred.

  • Demonstrated record of initiative, curiosity, and motivation for professional learning and development

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (e.g., Outlook, OneNote, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams).

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with high attention to detail.

  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills with the ability to identify and solve problems.

  • Ability to prioritize important and pressing tasks.

  • Innate organizational skills, willingness to take on challenges, and focus on personal responsibility.

  • A desire to work in a fast paced, entrepreneurial environment.

  • Occasional travel may be needed depending on business needs.
