Summary:

The Outpatient Cancer Palliative Licensed Clinical Social Worker is a vital Rush University System for Health community members. This position provides outpatient social work services for oncology patients, patients, and families engaged with Rush University Medical Center’s Cancer Center. This social worker provides relevant clinical social work services to address the complex psychosocial needs of the aforementioned population. This position is part of the Cancer Palliative team, a multidisciplinary team supporting the Rush Cancer Center, and the social worker works in collaboration with other healthcare team members to meet patients’ symptoms and psychosocial needs. The individual who holds this position will exemplify Rush's mission, vision, and values and act in accordance with Rush's policies and procedures.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide social work services to outpatient Cancer palliative patients, families, and caregivers engaged with Rush University Medical Center’s Cancer Center.

  • Address the psychosocial needs of Rush oncology patients who have been referred for social work services.

  • Work directly with patients and their families to address complex issues that arise from unmet needs and provide the necessary social work services to help them achieve their care goals.

  • Conduct assessments to identify patients’ psychosocial needs.

  • Develop a psychosocial plan of care and facilitate clinical interventions to meet patients’ needs in collaboration with Cancer palliative providers.

  • Connect patients and their families to relevant resources at Rush and in the community to address their needs.

  • Problem-solve with patients, their health care team, and other providers regarding psychosocial needs and care coordination.

  • Represent the Cancer Palliative Team at meetings, conferences, or other public engagements on an as-needed basis.

  • Leverage experience to support team members in case consultation, training, crisis management, etc.

  • Promote the RUCC Cancer Palliative program and refer patients to department services as appropriate.

  • Collaborate and consult with community partners as appropriate to support the needs of this patient population.

  • Maintain social work licensure through attendance at professional development training and engage in oncology-specific training as able.

Required Job Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in Social Work.

• Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the State of Illinois.

• four years experience in healthcare, care management, mental health, and social services.

• Clinical experience with relevant population(s).

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

• Strong, active listening, critical thinking, judgment, and decision-making skills.

• Shows acceptance of each person and their life journey.

• Ability to approach clients and the workplace from a trauma-informed and health equity lens.

Preferred Job Qualifications:

• Experience providing clinical supervision.

• Experience with evidence-based interventions.

• Experience with high-risk and complex populations.

• Professional qualities include initiative, self-reflection, commitment, responsiveness, and adaptability.

• Strong planning and implementation skills, including problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

• Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
