Job Description

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: The Developmental-Vision Therapist (DT-V) will provide specialized instruction and services to meet the developmental/educational needs of children (birth-three years of age) with visual impairments by developing unique instructional strategies to support children & family to meet the individualized family plan.

TRAVEL REQUIRED : Chicago and surrounding southern, west, and northern suburbs.

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide direct services (or another appropriate schedule as planned) through each session with the child and the family to support and develop instruction through a modeling and coaching method;

  • Responsible for maintaining records and updating documentation of observations, progress and ongoing instruction in permanent file and required data/information the Early Intervention system;

  • Attending the childs individual family plan (IFSP) and collaborate in early intervention team therapists for the children/families on individual caseload;

  • Provide necessary documentation during transition from early intervention to next educational setting at three years of age as well as collaborate with the scheduled meetings, discharge and exit meetings;

  • Attend and participate in scheduled Lighthouse staff meetings;

  • Participation in related seminars, conferences, and in-services to remain current with practices and advances in the field;

  • Responsible to provide parents with resources that could be helpful tomeet the medical, developmental needs of their child (e.g. respite care, public aid, Department of Education, etc.);

  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors degree in Special Educational (Illinois LBS 1 Certification) with Type 10 or emphasis in vision or Teacher of the Visually Impaired;

  • State of Illinois Early Intervention credential, required with endorsement in blind/visual impairment;

  • Ability to travel within diverse populations from client to client;

  • Bilingual candidate in Spanish/English preferred;

  • One-year experience in responsible, self-motivated setting preferred;
