Job Description

Position Overview

The Day Ahead Power Trader will be part of a group responsible for transactions to optimize returns for Invenergy’s fleet of Renewable and Natural Gas burning Power Plants. This position is part of Invenergy’s growing Commercial Execution group and will be based out of our Control Center in Downtown Chicago.

Responsibilities

  • Maximize the value of the generation resources though purchases and sales of energy while adhering to the company Risk Management Policy and generating company parameters.

  • Collaborate with gas traders to provide forecasting of generation and fuel requirements. These forecasts will be relied upon to make fuel purchasing decisions.

  • Determine offer/bid prices for the Day Ahead markets and at times negotiate the sale or purchase of power to maximize the profitability and utilization of resources.

  • Monitor the dispatch of the generating assets and provide assistance and guidance to the Real Time Traders as needed.

  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with other marketers and Energy Management customers, both internal and external.

  • Be responsible for making pricing and offer quantity decisions that can have large impact on project profitability with little direct guidance.

  • Analyze and interpret transmission data and models to inform short term trading decisions.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferably in an analytical field such as finance, accounting, or engineering.

  • 1+ years of experience in energy/gas trading environment with experience in PJM, ERCOT, MISO or SPP nodal markets. Experience trading around Generation Assets preferred.

  • Familiarity with thermal generation, electric transmission, gas transportation, and wind and solar energy facilities including forecasting methods.

  • Strong quantitative analytical and problem solving skills.

  • Demonstrated willingness to engage with other team members and senior management in decision making and setting of strategy.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in pressure situations.

  • Reliability and Responsibility to meet deadlines.

  • Outstanding communication and teamwork skills.

  • Eligible to work in the United States without the need for employer visa sponsorship now or in the future.
