Department of Finance

Payroll Systems and Operations

Number of Positions: 1

Under direction, manages the maintenance, development, and implementation of computer applications for distributed and centralized processing systems for a City department, and performs related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

· Leads a team of programmers and technicians who maintain, update, and troubleshoot the City of Chicago’s time and attendance systems.

· Applies the requisite program temporary fixes (PTF) and cumulative patches for the i-Series/Power 8 (OS/400) operating system.

· Coordinates with the City’s third-party software supplier with the purchase of software services associated with any upgrades to the i-Series operating system.

· Provides input for documentation on new or existing hardware and operating systems.

· Coordinates, conducts, and provides documentation for business-continuity tests.

· Coordinates the purchase of IBM-related software licenses and renewals with the City’s third- party software supplier.

· Develops and conducts tests to ensure systems meet documented user requirements.

· Identifies, analyzes, and resolves operating/hardware system problems.

· Determines system specifications, input/output processes, and working parameters for hardware/software compatibility.

· Coordinates with the Department of Technology and Innovation for all pre-requisites to establish secured file-transfers and interfaces.

· Maintains any existing third-party software licenses via coordination with the City’s third-party supplier.

· Examines file usage, response times, and overall system efficiency.

· Trains City of Chicago personnel on new/existing software/hardware.

· Develops team efficiency.

THIS POSITION IS EXEMPT FROM THE CAREER SERVICE

Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in computer sciences, information technology/systems, or a directly related field, plus five years of experience in the design and development of computerized systems of which two years are in a supervisory role related to the responsibilities of the position, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, provided the minimum degree requirement is met.

SELECTION REQUIREMENTS

This position requires applicants to successfully complete an interview which will include a written exercise and/or skills assessment as part of the interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, based on the oral and written parts of the interview will be selected.

Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:

· Previous programming work experience

· Previous experience working on a team

· Previous work experience with AS 400/i-Series /Power 8 and the OS400 operating system

· Previous work experience with OS upgrade

· Previous MIMIX configuration/switch work experience

· Knowledge of analysis, design, and troubleshooting
