The University of Chicago\'s Division of Biological Sciences and Pritzker School of Medicine, one of the country\'s preeminent medical schools, seeks nominations and applications for an outstanding academic, neurosurgeon leader to serve as the Chair of the Department of Neurosurgery. Reporting to Mark Anderson, MD, PhD, Dean, Division of Biological Sciences, Dean, Pritzker School of Medicine and Executive Vice President for Medical Affairs, the appointee will join the University of Chicago faculty at an exciting time in the School of Medicine\'s long history.

The appointee will be an academic leader who has demonstrated the ability to build nationally recognized research programs, create patient-centered multidisciplinary clinical services, and develop highly competitive training programs that prepare tomorrow\'s neurosurgeons and inspire trainees to pursue academic careers. The Chair must be clinically active and have a substantial record of important publications and demonstrated impact on their field. Importantly, the Chair will be viewed by all stakeholders as a strong advocate for balancing the academic, educational, and clinical missions within the Department, and to be a willing collaborator with colleagues outside of the Department. The Chair will promote a culture of institutional stewardship and transparency, including commitment to improved clinical operations, efficient and effective use of space, and a willingness to re-align resources with evolving institutional strategies. Promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion is critical to the organization\'s success and an important requirement of the Chair.

Prior to the start of employment, qualified applicants must: 1.) have a medical doctorate or equivalent; 2.) hold or be eligible for medical licensure in the States of Illinois and Indiana; 3.) hold active board certification by the American Board of Neurological Surgery or comparable credentials; 4.) qualify for appointment at senior faculty rank.
