Job Description Summary

The Shirley Ryan AbilityLab-UChicago Medicine Alliance Attending Physician Position provides a unique combination of inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation and consultation experience within both an academic and community practice. Successful candidates work with a team of physicians to rotate between two UChicago Medicine (UCM) locations:

The University of Chicago Medical Center service offers consult practice at a large, academic, level one trauma center. Physicians receive academic appointment as a Clinical Associate in the University of Chicago Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation Medicine. They work closely with physicians and teams in oncology, orthopaedics, neurology, neurosurgery, trauma and other referring specialties to support patient care and discharge planning.

The UChicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial Hospital service includes care for patients on the UCM Ingalls campus. This includes acute inpatient rehabilitation at UChicago Medicine Rehabilitation Center, a 35-bed program in alliance with the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab (SRAlab), as well as consultations for acute care patients within UCM Ingalls Hospital, a community, acute care hospital.

Job Description

The successful candidate will join a cohesive, collaborative team of physicians committed to providing the SRAlab standards of care. As a member of both the SRAlab and UCM Medical Staff, physicians have access to the resources of both organizations including continuing medical education, online clinical databases, teaching opportunities, and clinical practice administrative support.

Reporting Relationships:

Reports directly to the Program Medical Director or the Chief Medical Officer as appropriate.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required

  • Licensed to practice medicine in the State of Illinois.
  • Successful completion of a residency program in physical medicine and rehabilitation and is Board certified or Board Eligible.
  • Excellent communications and interdisciplinary skills required, including proven ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, referring parties, SRAlab and other internal and external stakeholders.

Working Conditions Normal office environment with little or no exposure to dust or extreme temperature.
