Job Description

Associate, Thermal Asset Management

Position Overview As an Associate, Thermal Asset Management, you will report to a Senior Manager, Thermal Asset Management and assist with and lead a wide range of activities all directed toward the same goal:  maximizing the profitability of Invenergy’s operating thermal assets. You will be part of the Thermal Asset Management team and will work closely with external stakeholders and cross-functionally with many other teams, including our Portfolio Finance, Accounting, Performance Engineering, Commercial, and Operations and Maintenance teams.

Responsibilities

Finance:

  • Develop and manage annual and long-term budgets for the generation assets and perform periodic variance analyses

  • Provide input and review the pro-forma financial models for generation assets

  • Author and present reports on project performance for external investors and lenders and Invenergy’s leadership team

  • Assist in cash flow forecasting, management, and optimization

  • Perform financial analyses of aftermarket improvements

    Operations:

  • Collaborate with the operations engineering team to evaluate and improve operational performance

  • Lead commercial processes associated with improving asset performance, including financial analysis

  • Coordinate with project O&M staff on operational items, including major component repair and replacement

  • Participate in contract development with outside vendors, from soliciting quotes to participating in final contract negotiation and execution

  • Support Invenergy’s strategy and development teams in evaluating potential upgrade and retrofit opportunities to best position the generation assets in the ongoing energy transition

    Commercial:

  • Provide inputs to support asset bidding and scheduling strategies

  • Support development of commercial contracts and bids

  • Collaborate with Commercial and Trading teams on short and long-term power market strategies

    Regulatory and compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and project agreements, including: Power Purchase Agreements, Operating Agreements, Credit Agreements, and Operations and Maintenance Agreements

  • Lead dispute negotiations if they arise with contractual counterparts

  • Lead strategy and compliance programs associated with greenhouse gas emission reduction programs

    Required Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., Engineering, Mathematics, Economics) and coursework in Finance or Accounting.

  • Minimum 3 + years of job experience. 

  • Strong analytical, logical and problem-solving skills.

  • Effective verbal and written communication and collaboration skills.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

  • Travel

  • Eligible to work in the United States without the need for employer visa sponsorship now or in the future.

    ​ Preferred Skills

  • Experience writing, negotiating, and managing contracts preferred.

  • Experience with standard financial metrics and analyses (NPV, IRR, DCF models) preferred.

  • Experience and interest in energy industry and energy markets preferred.
