Job Description

Position Overview

As an Associate Electrical Engineer, you will support Invenergy’s Reliability Compliance program for the entire Invenergy fleet with an emphasis on electricity generation regulatory requirements (NERC & IESO) associated with cyber security and real time operations. Based out of our downtown Chicago office, the Associate Electrical Engineer will use their engineering expertise, technical writing, and critical thinking to complete the job responsibilities with limited managerial oversight.

Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in real time operational compliance monitoring activities supporting thermal and renewable technologies

  • Interpret engineering drawings and manufacturers specifications

  • Responsible for providing technical interpretation and guidance on engineering studies, site models, and testing reports

  • Review relay coordination studies and provide feedback and ensure compliance with NERC Standard(s) is met

  • Conduct ad hoc independent research on industry trends and rules

  • Support the implementation and monitoring of internal controls

  • Perform other job related duties as assigned

    Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related discipline with an engineering/power system focus and/or equivalent industry experience

  • 3+ years of direct Electrical Engineering Experience

  • 2+ years of NERC and/or IESO Compliance Experience and/or equivalent industry experience

  • 1+ year of Experience in working, reviewing, and/or providing feedback on PSS/e, PSCAD, EMT, and/or PSLF Models

  • Ability to gain a comprehensive understanding of power generation operations

  • Critical thinking skills with the ability to identify and solve complex problems with limited managerial oversight

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the desire to work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment and to meet deadlines

  • Excellent organizational, presentation/facilitation, verbal, and written communication skills

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products, including SharePoint, and Adobe Acrobat

  • Willingness to travel between 5-10%

    Preferred Skills

  • Knowledge of protective relay systems

  • Prior Experience working on Technical Engineering work and/or working at a Utility and/or knowledge of utility scale or renewable power systems,

  • Prior experience working within the modeling group and/or Relay Design team.
