The Department of Health Systems Management (HSM) at Rush University is seeking outstanding candidates for a full-time (12-month), open rank, tenure-track faculty position, beginning in Fall 2024. The department operates under a unique practitioner-teacher model, providing an unparalleled level of integration between our educational programs and the healthcare management practitioner community. The Department’s Master of Science in Health Systems Management (MS-HSM) Program is ranked 3 rd in the nation among CAHME accredited programs. The Department includes 8 core academic faculty members and nearly 100 adjunct practitioner faculty members. The faculty member will be responsible for teaching graduate-level courses in the Residential and Executive Tracks of the MS-HSM Program; serve as an academic advisor; lead and/or be an integral member of departmental committees and functions, such as admissions, career services, and curriculum; maintain a program of scholarship, independently and in collaboration with other RUSH faculty; represent the department as an active member of local, regional and national associations, such as the Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA), Chicago Health Executives Forum, and/or American College of Healthcare Executives.

Ideal candidates for this position will

  • Understand and appreciate the role of practitioners in graduate professional education

  • Show evidence of teaching effectiveness

  • Have a track record of excellent scholarly achievement in applied research relevant to health administration

  • Have a track record of professional service

Preferred qualifications include an earned doctorate in a field relevant to the teaching focus, practice-relevant research publications, experience and enthusiasm for working collaboratively within and across disciplines, and demonstrated excellence and innovation in teaching. Faculty with research interests compatible with the department’s current research initiatives and the practitioner-teacher model are a plus.
