Position Summary

As a Analytics Platform Engineer at Huron, you will be contributing to the development and enhancement of a cloud data platform that serves as a foundation for internal and customer-facing data & analytics products. You must have knowledge of (or the ability to learn quickly) building, operating, deploying and scaling cloud infrastructure. Our data products focus on complex data processing and analytics pipelines, so the Analytics Platform Engineer brings practical experience with the end-to-end flow of delivery for data and analytics products, including: data architecture, data pipelines, analytical data modeling, and distributed processing. The Analytics Platform Engineer must be able to demonstrate innovative approaches to complex problems which deliver industry-leading experiences for business stakeholders. We are looking for those with a strong computer science foundation and the ability to quickly get up to speed with technologies they may not be familiar with. Experience is a plus, but the ability to learn and grow quickly is a must.

Qualifications

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop, test, deploy and support new features for the analytics platform with a focus on quality, efficiency and scalability

  • Collaborate with analysts, developers, architects and other stakeholders across teams to:

  • Identify opportunities for new features and use-cases

  • Establish, refine and execute processes and controls around the flow of data

  • Support products built on the analytics platform and provide guidance as they mature

  • Test/troubleshoot problems and conduct root cause analysis

  • Contribute to improvements in data governance

  • Recommend and implement enhancements that streamline processes and improve data integrity

  • Additional duties as assigned to ensure company success

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • 4 or more years relevant experience

  • Hands-on and comfortable leading by example

  • Motivated, self-starter with the ability to learn quickly

  • Possess excellent interpersonal and organizational skills

  • Able to manage your own time and work well both independently and as part of a team

  • Familiarity with architectural patterns for data-intensive solutions

  • Knowledge of batch-style data processing

  • Knowledge of the RDBMS core principles; set up, tune, design, as well as newer unstructured data tools

  • Display sound problem-solving abilities in the face of challenges

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Requirements:

  • Strong software engineering fundamentals

  • Object oriented programming

  • Common design patterns

  • Python

  • Package and module development

  • Leveraging existing API’s, public and private

  • Unit and Integration testing

  • AWS

  • Cloudformation or preferably CDK

  • Athena (Trino)

  • ECS or EKS or Batch or Fargate

  • AWS SDK (boto3 and CLI)

  • Relational Databases & SQL

  • Doesn’t need to be PostgreSQL experience specifically

  • Query and join data

  • Create and maintain views

  • Optimize analytical workloads in RDBMS

  • Data Architecture & Data Modeling

  • Working knowledge of the core principals data architecture in both the classical relational context (Kimball/Inmon) of BI and data warehousing and more modern architectures

  • Working knowledge of transactional vs. analytical modeling

Preferred:

  • PowerShell

  • Shell scripting

  • dbt experience

  • Spark experience

  • Experience with metadata on a data lake (Iceberg preferred, Hudi or Delta)

  • Experience optimizing database queries

  • Familiarity with consulting and traditional application design

  • Experience navigating and enforcing code-quality

  • Experience with Agile Methodology

  • Experience mentoring junior developers in software engineering best-practices

  • BA or BS, preferably in Computer Science, Engineering or Science/Technology-based discipline

Remote position, flexible living location in the US or Canada.

Will have opportunity to travel 2-4 times a year.

The estimated base salary for this job is $105,000 - $145,000. The range represents a good faith estimate of the range that Huron reasonably expects to pay for this job at the time of the job posting. The actual salary paid to an individual will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limited to specific skills or certifications, years of experience, market changes, and required travel. This job is also eligible to participate in Huron’s annual incentive compensation program, which reflects Huron’s pay for performance philosophy. Inclusive of annual incentive compensation opportunity, the total estimated compensation range for this job is $117,600 - $171,100. The job is also eligible to participate in Huron’s benefit plans which include medical, dental and vision coverage and other wellness programs. The salary range information provided is in accordance with applicable state and local laws regarding salary transparency that are currently in effect and may be implemented in the future.
