This is a benefits-eligible full-time grant funded position.

This position is funded for 5 years.

The Research Program Manager’s primary role is to provide oversight for and manage the research portfolio of Dr. Whitney Irie. The Research Program Manager will (1) ensure effective implementation of sponsored research studies; (2) train and supervise research personnel (including graduate research assistants); and (3) monitor appropriate budget spending for each project in coordination with the Assistant Director of Fiscal and Grant Administration at the Boston College School of Social Work.

The Research Program Manager will oversee the management and implementation of funded research studies led by Dr. Whitney Irie in the School of Social Work. The Research Program Manager will develop and institute procedures to ensure effective implementation of the sponsored research to meet study goals, serve as a primary liaison with research partners, train and direct graduate research assistants, and ensure timely development of research deliverables.

The Research Program Manager will report to Dr. Whitney Irie and supervise 2-3 graduate research assistants.

Essential functions of this position include:

Research Management (60%): Engage in high-level coordination and daily management of sponsor research activities; Serve as primary liaison with research partners; Collaborate with study investigators and partners to ensure that study aims are fulfilled; Develop and manage comprehensive timelines and metrics; Create protocols for quantitative and qualitative data collection activities; Develop and implement protocols, procedures and policies to ensure consistency of implementation of best practices across studies; Strategize with PIs, research team members, and administrative staff when problems arise and offer solutions; Ensure that study enrollment and data analysis advances according to expected timelines; Develop and maintain protocols for required reporting, and data sharing for all NIH awards; Maintain a positive and collaborative research environment.

Administration (25%): Draft, manage, and submit all IRB documentation; Develop and implement administrative systems and procedures to ensure effective implementation of sponsored research; Support PI in organizing and structuring research team meetings, prepare meeting notes with support from the graduate research assistant(s) and follow-up on action items; Manage research communications; Develop progress reports and grant deliverables according to proposed timelines; Foster and maintain collaborative relationships with departments and offices at Boston College; Assist with planning and drafting grant applications and research publications.

Supervision (5%): Supervise the activities of student research assistants; Oversee student schedules and maintain workflows.

Financial Management (10%) : Manage budgeting and financial reporting required for compliance on assigned research projects.

This is a demanding position that requires a flexible work schedule to meet deadlines.

This position requires some travel to oversee activities at project sites.

Requirements

Required Qualifications : 3+ years of experience directing day-to-day research activities in an academic context; Experience in team management, particularly overseeing student interns or research assistant; Experience managing large data collection activities (preferable qualitative and quantitative data); Experience developing and managing IRB protocols; In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Experience developing online surveys using Qualtrics; Experience using project management software such as ClickUp (preferred) or Asana or Trello.

Preferred Qualifications : Experience working with community partners in the context of research; Working knowledge of intervention development and evaluation methods (e.g., formative research, process evaluation, impact evaluation); Experience with qualitative and quantitative analysis; Experience using or commitment to learn and master project management software such as ClickUp.
