Job Description

The Academic Support Assistant performs a wide range of highly skilled administrative duties for the full-time and adjunct faculty. The position is required to execute, with proficiency, a broad range of technical processes in support of teaching and research at the Law School. Responsibilities include preparing materials for publications and course work. This position will also support the faculty in their use of classroom technology and various academic software. The position will report to the Director of Faculty Services and support the office of Academic & Student Services as required.

Various administrative tasks include:

  • Provide wide range of support for faculty including: typing, composing and editing letters, memorandum, reports, lecture/course materials, and presentations.

  • Uses multiple technical applications including word processing, database management, spreadsheets, graphics and presentation software, electronic calendar, email, and other academic applications (CANVAS)

  • Greet and assist faculty, students, and employees in a professional manner

  • Train, schedule, and manage student-employees

  • Monitor and update various webpages on the BC Law website

  • Support the Law Review with various tasks, including writing competitions

  • Assist with proofreading, copying, monitoring and collecting exams

  • Assist faculty with the tracking of student grades

  • Review and update the adjunct handbook

  • Assist the Faculty Services Director in onboarding new and visiting faculty

  • Assist the Law School Educational Technology Specialist with faculty requests for basic Canvas LMS support

  • Assist the Director for Newton Audiovisual Services with various tasks as needed, including classroom-technology support and changes to scheduled lecture recordings

  • Support faculty with the illustrations and graphics in their various publications

  • Assist faculty with the ordering of course materials from the BC Bookstore

  • Support various events held at the Law School

  • Various ad hoc projects

Hiring Range: $20.74/hr to $25.93/hr. Pay rate commensurate with relevant experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.

  • 1-3 years of increasingly responsible administrative experience in an academic setting

  • Customer-service oriented

  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills with attention to detail

  • Excellent oral and written communications skills

  • Proficiency in technology, including Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, Adobe, graphic design software, charts and graphs, and Canvas

  • Ability to quickly learn new technology

  • Exceptional proof-reading

  • Very adept at handling multiple tasks and working well within deadlines

  • Good judgment and discretion in handling confidential materials
