SAFETY SENSITIVE Department:CHEROKEE CHILDRENS HOME Reports to: CHEROKEE CHILDRENS HOME MANAGER Level/Grade: 6 PAY: $30,000 - $37,500 STATUS: Full-time or Part-time HOURS: 40/week or 20/week SHIFTS - Choose from:

  • Overnight 11:30pm - 7:30am
  • Weekends Fridays11:30pm - Sundays 11:30pm
  • 2nd Shift 3:30pm - 11:30pm

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt POSITION SUMMARY: The Cherokee Childrens Home Resident Counselor provides general childcare duties in a full-time residential setting and is responsible for minor daily reporting. Responsibilities may vary according to the needs of the residents. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Carries out the daily aspects of the Individualized Service Plan (ISP).
  • Monitors and supervises the daily cottage routine including wake up times, meal times, activities, education, chores, spiritual practice, study/quiet times, bed times, etc.
  • Plan and prepares three healthy and nutritional meals for residents each day and shops for groceries accordingly.
  • Supervises residents closely and is able to recognize inappropriate behaviors, possible illness or injuries and is able to address these issues timely.
  • Actively monitors resident's school work and school information daily and advises social worker of special needs of the residents as they relate to the school work, projects or classroom needs.
  • Administers medications, including prescribed and over-the-counter medications, accurately and timely and completes the documentation required in the Medication Log.
  • Keeps the cottages clean, bedrooms neat and bathrooms and kitchens sanitary. Residents will be assigned chores to assist staff while learning responsibilities.
  • Does laundry and puts clothes away daily unless residents are able to complete this responsibility by themselves.
  • Reports cottage repairs as needed to the Administrative Office by completing work orders.
  • Plans activities and recreational opportunities for the residents and maintains a log of expenses and receipts with each activity.
  • Serves as an effective role model to the residents including sound health practices and maintenance of appropriate boundaries.
  • Completes daily paperwork including daily logs, reports, awarding of points in behavior modification program (Juvenile Cottage), neatly, accurately and timely.
  • Attends team meetings, staff meetings, and training as scheduled including certifications for First Aid and CPR.
  • Provides transportation for residents as required.
  • Promotes independent living skills through teachable moments.
  • Attend and participate in training and staff development as required.
  • Contribute to the continued growth and development of CCH programming.
  • Communicate and work smoothly and effectively with the Campus Team and have the mindset of a team player.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Cherokee Childrens Home Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Must be 21 years of age.

One year of experience working with at-risk youth is preferred.
