Job Description:

Job Title: Truck Driver-Satellite

Department: Transportation

FLSA: Non-Exempt

General Function:

Shuttles backhauls to drop lot. Delivers to stores as requested. Inspects and arranges repairs and preventative maintenance to tractor and trailers. Completes paperwork. Communicates with department manager regarding completion of current assignment. Operates equipment in a safe manner. Complies with all Federal Motor Commercial Vehicle Regulations.

Reporting Relations

Accountable and Reports to (Job Title): VP of Transportation; Director of Transportation, Cherokee; Assistant Transportation Manager, Cherokee Resources/Cherokee Division; Director of Transportation, Cherokee; Assistant Transportation Manager, Cherokee

Positions that report to you: None

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Drives in a safe manner taking into account weather conditions and obeying all laws and regulations.

  2. Delivers product to stores, which includes backing across crowded parking lots, unloading product and returning with backhauls as assigned.

  3. Completes log book, trip mileage chart, fuel slips, and paperwork for back hauls and damaged merchandise.

  4. Inspects and communicates repairs and preventative maintenance to tractor and trailer as needed to Logistics Department. Maintains equipment including washing tractor-trailer and fueling truck.

  5. Provides 100% customer service and communicates with warehouse and store personnel.

  6. Reports to work when scheduled and works expected number of hours.

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Attends and participates in company meetings as needed.

  2. Performs other job related duties and special projects as required.

  3. Represents the company in a positive manner.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics:

  • Must have the ability to solve practical problems; variety of variables with limited standardization; interpret instructions.

  • Must be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers.

  • Must have the ability to understand and follow verbal, written, or diagrammatic (maps) instructions; write identifying information; and request supplies orally or in writing.

  • Must be physically able to perform medium work: exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

  • Visual requirements include clarity of vision at distance of less than 20 inches and up to 20 feet with or without correction, depth perception, color vision, and field of vision.

Education and Experience:

  • High school or equivalent experience. Valid Commercial Driver’s License.

  • Trailer jockeying experience preferred.

  • Over one year up to three years of similar or related work experience

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to perform the following physical activities: Stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, climbing, crawling, balancing, bending, and repetitive motions.

Working Conditions

The duties of this position are performed in a combination of a warehouse, vehicle, and store environment. There is exposure to diesel smoke, dirt, grease, snow, ice, noise, vibrations, dampness, equipment movement hazards, dangerous chemical/solvents, and temperature extremes. There is significant pressure to meet deadlines.
