Farmers Market Assistant supports the Market Manager in operating the twice weekly Chelsea Farmers Markets (Wednesdays and Saturdays, May through October). The Assistant will effectively balances interpersonal and organizational skills with interest and understanding of local agricultural systems. The Assistant should be a highly organized record keeper, and able to manage multiple tasks. The schedule for the Assistant is 12-16 hours per week May through October; this includes every Saturday 6:00 am – 2:00 pm, with remaining hours being flexible to work from home or in-person, occasionally assisting during the Wednesday afternoon market.

The Assistant should be a highly organized record keeper, and able to manage multiple tasks. The schedule for the Assistant is 12-16 hours per week May through October; this includes every Saturday 6:00 am – 2:00 pm, with remaining hours being flexible to work from home or in-person, occasionally assisting during the Wednesday afternoon market.
Qualifications: The Market Assistant will have a minimum of a high school diploma, with 1-3 years' work experience. Training or experience in food systems, agriculture or public health preferred but not required. Must be able to lift 40 lbs.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
1) Assist Manager with opening and closing of market (set up/ tear down tents, tables, signs)
2) Support information booth, newsletter sign-up sheet, market customer count and customer survey distributions.
3) Track customer counts at each Saturday market and collect customer feedback.
4) Assist with vendor fee collection.
5) Support management of food assistance programs during markets, and record keeping and reporting after markets.
6) Promote market attendance through bi-weekly social media posts and newsletters.
7) Facilitate special events and activities at the market, including kids' tent, strawberry fest, and trick-or-treating.
8) Recruit volunteers.
9) Be in attendance at every Saturday market, May through Oct, and occasionally at the Wednesday afternoon market.
Required Skills and Abilities
1) Familiarity with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint required. Experience working with WordPress and Mailchimp a plus.
2) Must be physically fit for market set up and tear down requirements.
