Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories Software Engineer Intern in Chattanooga, Tennessee

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) seeks a professional, innovative and detailed individual for our Software Engineering Intern position. The ideal candidate for this position will be able to work part-time during the school year and full-time during the summer. If you are looking for an opportunity to program in C# and learn fundamentals of object-oriented programming and development, then this position is for you!

As a Software Engineer Intern, a typical day might include the following:

  • Supporting SEL’s software development process

  • Verifying that software meets requirements.

  • Implement firmware/software design.

  • Providing support to engineering staff as needed.

  • Following engineering quality assurance procedures.

  • Continuously identifying, measuring, and improving processes.

  • Following and applying SEL Values, Principles of Operations, and World Class Manufacturing Principles.

  • Understanding. Creating. Simplifying.

    This job might be for you if:

  • You are a current student pursuing a degree in computer science or equivalent with at least one year of technical coursework completed.

  • You have programming experience in C#, C++, Java or equivalent OO programming language

  • You are able to execute and document defined testing procedures

  • You have strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills

  • You are able to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities

  • You are able to work cooperatively in a team environment

  • You have background check results satisfactory to SELegative drug test result(s)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using scripting languages, such as Python, Javascript, Perl, Ruby

  • Practical knowledge of developing Microsoft Windows applications

  • Knowledge of SQL and database concepts

  • Experience using revision control and source code management systems such as Git, Mercurial, SVN, and Rational ClearCase

    Pay Range Data

    ($17.00 - $26.50 per hour)* Our intern pay is determined based on the internship role (the work you would be doing) and your year in school (when you plan to graduate). Talk to your recruiter if you are curious about the rate for your year in school.
