NEOTech is hiring a Sr. Cost Accountant. This is an onsite position and is based in the company's headquarters in Chatsworth, CA.

Pay Range: $120,000.00 - $150,000.00 (Wage to be determined by the experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the candidate, and alignment with market data)

SR. COST ACCOUNTANT

Summary

Manage Cost Accounting System to ensure accurate inventory valuation and cost of goods sold. Perform analysis of manufacturing costs in order to plan and control inventory levels and profit margins. Assist department and program managers in analyzing part cost variances and program financial performance.

Key Responsibilities/Duties

  • Analyze and report the variances generated from the manufacturing reporting system and inventory purchases and usage. Work closely with operations to fully understand and report the cause of variances.

  • Monitor changes to the manufacturing reporting system to ensure that all changes are correct from the standpoint of determining actual cost and inventory valuation.

  • Analyze and support inventory cycle counts to ensure accuracy and completeness. Follow through with Production Control to ensure that issues resulting from the cycle counts are properly resolved in a timely manner.

  • Analyze and report slow moving inventory.

  • Analyze and report the adequacy of the Excess and Obsolete inventory reserve on a quarterly basis.

  • Analyze and report scrap on at least a quarterly basis.

  • Monitor collection and allocation of actual costs to work orders to ensure accuracy and compliance with company policies

  • Reconcile the perpetual inventory sub system to the general ledger monthly.

  • Review and reconcile the Gross Margin report monthly.

  • Run all month end reports and process inventory statistics.

  • Analyze and report Capitalized Variance, Purchase Price Variance, Inventory Adjustments and Standard Change Variance accounts monthly.

  • Analyze and report Work In Process and Stock Room inventory on a monthly basis.

  • Coordinate the annual year-end physical inventory count and observation by external audit firm.

  • Prepare and review the inventory/cost of goods sold journal entries, and all related reports and analysis to ensure proper valuation of inventory

  • Assist program managers in analyzing contract cost variances, contract gross margins, and overall program financial performance.

  • Assist in developing cost accounting procedures as needed.

  • Provide assistance where needed with month end close.

  • Remain flexible and willing to provide assistance in different area of the accounting department as needed.

Qualifications

Education/Experience Required

  • BS/BA Degree in accounting, CPA certification is preferred.

  • 5-7 years of experience as a cost accountant

Specific Knowledge, Skills, Licenses, Certifications, etc:

  • Thorough understanding of job cost and inventory systems

  • Knowledge of technical accounting skills

  • Good organization and documentation habits

  • Math and problem solving skills

  • Proficient in Excel, Word

  • Detail oriented and accurate

  • Ability to interface with multiple levels in the organization

  • Ability to work independently and with little direction on normal recurring work

  • Very good communication skills – succinct, accurate, timely in written and verbal formats. Must be able to communicate GAAP, company policy, and regulatory requirements to non-accounting personnel in a professional and persuasive manner, to include education and training of others.

  • Some travel required
