ABOUT THIS CAREER OPPORTUNITY

Black & McDonald's Southern Ontario Facilities Maintenance & Operations team is growing! If you are committed and collaborative professional looking to contribute to a hard-working, innovative team, this opportunity is for you.

The Maintenance Mechanic is Responsible to maintain, upgrade, troubleshoot and repair all HVAC equipment within the Department of National Defense facilities to achieve optimum life span of equipment.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Perform monthly preventative maintenance as directed by the supervisor including:

  • Perform site inspections (interior / exterior) and document

  • Respond to emergency trouble calls of a mechanical nature, and support other staff in their tasks

  • Support mechanical maintenance duties, including but not limited to:

  • Minor repairs

  • Change belts

  • Replace filters

  • Support additional work requests, including small projects

  • Coordinate minor repairs including replace flush valves and faucets, clear toilets and drains, replace lamps, reset breakers

  • Utilize CMMS to demonstrate and document work performed on building assets and service to tenants

  • Order and maintain supply inventory

  • Oversee repair and maintenance tasks performed by sub-trades

  • Various cleaning tasks, as agreed upon and as time permits

  • Ensure maximum operation of equipment; inspect/operate/maintain and minor repairs for mechanical/electrical systems and equipment (HVAC equipment, pumps, generators, life safety system, etc.).

  • Ensure all equipment are operated in a safe and efficient manner and in compliance with all applicable government codes and regulations.

  • Other tasks as agreed upon.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Knowledge and understanding of HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical systems and BAS.

  • Building Environment System certificate or a trade license (BES 1 and/or 2) is considered an asset.

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • 3-5 years' facilities maintenance and operations experience.

  • Strong technical capabilities in building systems and equipment.

SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills required with ability to follow instructions both written and verbal.

  • Always maintain a professional demeanour with fellow employees and customer.

  • Maintain clear and courteous phone etiquette.

  • A team player, committed to working in a quality environment.

  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.

  • Security clearance requirements [specify type of security clearance requirement].

  • Maintain a valid G license with a clean driver's abstract.
