Ridgeview Medical Center Surgical Technician OI in Chaska, Minnesota

Up to $2500 Sign On Bonus! Opening in Fall 2023, Ridgeview is developing the Orthopedic Institute - a premiere destination for patients to access world-class orthopedic care. The Orthopedic Institute is a valued-based partnership between Ridgeview and Twin Cities Orthopedics (TCO), and is the first dedicated orthopedic facility in Minnesota that is a partnership between an independent practice and a health system. It combines the world-class services of Ridgeview and TCO with groundbreaking technology in a state-of-the-art facility. The shared goals include, but are not limited to, achieving high quality in-patient care, improved outcomes and an exceptional patient experience. A new fifth floor - with 20 hospital beds and six operating rooms - is being added to the Two Twelve Medical Center building on Ridgeview's Chaska Campus to house the new Orthopedic Institute. Ridgeview will staff clinical and ancillary services to support the Orthopedic Institute's operations. TCO physicians will provide surgical services and care coordination. Purpose of Job This position is responsible for providing surgical patient care and related services in the operating room under the supervision of the RN circulator to ensure a safe and efficient surgical environment. Job Functions Assesses surgical procedures and patient specific requirements with the circulating nurse to ensure proper preparation of the operating room. Prepares and maintains the sterile operating field for the duration of each surgical procedure. Assists the surgeon as needed during the intra-operative procedure. Assists with room turnover in O.R. suites between cases. Performs accurate instrument, sponge, needle, and blade count. Assists the surgeon during operative procedures with other duties within scope of practice, such as holding placed retractors, assembling surgical instruments and equipment, cutting suture material as directed by surgeon, connecting drains to suction apparatus, and applying dressing. Participates in quality improvement activities as appropriate to position. Serves as a patient advocate Interactions with and contributes to the professional development of peers, other health professionals and colleagues. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Education/Work Experience Graduate from an approved Surgical Technician program ORGraduate of an accredited school of practical nursing. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Knowledge of sterile technique and handling of sterile equipment Ability to meet and maintain the necessary background checks as aligned with position functions Ability to communicate in the English language for effective written and verbal correspondence in order to complete job functions as mentioned above Preparation and maintenance of a sterile field Ability to work autonomously and as a team Ability to work and multi-task in a high stress and fact paced environment Ability to respond appropriately to unpredictable situations and diverse patient populations License/Certification Surgical Technician Certification (obtained within six months of hire) (grandfathered if hired prior to 4/2015) ORCurrent Practical Nurse licensure in Minnesota or if licensed in another state, a permit from the Minnesota Board of Nursing while the license application is in process.
