Shipping & Receiving Clerk I (Chaska, MN)

Position Profile:

Responsible for the timely and accurate execution of key and primary tasks related to at least one area of discipline; Receiving or Shipping. Follows established procedures and ensures the same standardized approach is properly followed and applied for each activity. Will strive to maintain a clean environment and clear visual workflow representing the Raw Material area.

Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent

  • Relevant experience in manual and electronic Receiving Department functions

  • Knowledge of light equipment operation and or maintenance

  • Knowledge of postal or commercial shipping methods and procedures

  • Effective verbal/written communication skills required for multi-faceted interactions with all levels of personnel within the organization

  • Computer literate, with MS Office/PC experience

  • Must be a US Citizen

  • Must be able to travel to NJ up to 25% of the time for required training during the first three months of employment.

Essential or Primary / Key Responsibilities (Receiving):

  • Maintain accurate counts and inventory records

  • Receive and unload incoming materials and compare information on packing slips with purchase order to verify accuracy of shipment

  • Unpack, sort, count, re-package, label, and/or log inventory which is to be received

  • Inspect shipments for damages or defects, records discrepancies or damages and notify supervisor and or Procurement personnel, so that return shipments from customers may be processed

  • Deliver items to requisitioning departments and obtain authorized signatures for accepting items

  • Electronically transact data into databases and MRP as appropriate, prepare routine reports and file Receiving records, as directed

  • Train personnel to perform required technical tasks for Receiving (as requested)

Essential or Primary / Key Responsibilities (Shipping):

  • Prepares shipments for postal or commercial conveyance; determines most economical and efficient shipping method; selects appropriate shipping container; packs items to ensure safe delivery.

  • Prepares bills of lading; checks items to be shipped against work orders to ascertain that quantities, destination, and routing are correct.

  • Electronically transact data into databases and MRP as appropriate, prepare routine reports and file shipping records, as directed.

  • Traces lost shipments and/or customer claims of lost shipments; initiates proof of delivery documents.

  • Train personnel to perform required technical tasks for Shipping (as requested)

Additional Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Operate lift cart, pallet jack, and or forklift in loading and unloading supplies and equipment, as directed

  • Prepare variety of routine administrative paperwork and record keeping

  • Abide by all safety, quality, housekeeping and company policies/procedures to ensure compliance to all regulatory and internal system requirements.

  • Actively participate in team meetings, improvement initiatives/programs, etc. and support actions to drive company initiatives/goals

  • Contribute to a positive and cooperative work environment through effective communication at all levels internal and external to the organization

  • Consistently demonstrate commitment to company values

  • Keep management informed of area activities and of any significant problems.

  • Assume responsibility for related duties as required or assigned.

  • Ensure that work area is clean, secure, and well maintained.

  • Complete special projects and miscellaneous assignments as required.

Work Environment:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to conditions typical of a manufacturing/shipping & receiving environment, including, but not limited to: fluids, fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, noise and vibration

  • This job interacts both in a professional office environment and a manufacturing/machine shop environment. This role uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines, as well as environments inclusive of the appropriate eye, hearing and foot protection (as required).

  • Temperature of work environment may be affected by outside/external temperatures, machining processes, etc.

  • This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are 8 hours, Monday through Friday. Overtime and weekend work are required, as job duties demand.

  • No travel is expected for this position.

Physical Requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Vision and color vision must pass job-required vision screening

  • The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, and to use hands to finger, handle or feel

  • The employee is regularly required to stand, sit, walk, stoop, or crouch, and move about the facility.

  • The employee may be required to lift and/or move items weighing up to 25 pounds.

Must be able to travel to NJ up to 25% of the time for required training during the first three months of employment.
