University of Virginia Staff Accountant II in Charlottesville, Virginia

The Staff Accountant II is responsible for maintaining the general accounting, controlling and financial reporting activities of the Clinical Departments, the Clinical Practice Group (CPG) and/or the Administrative units at UVA Physicians Group (UPG), including but limited to the following duties as assigned:

  • Prepares, reviews and journalizes financial transactions to the UPG General Ledger to record the financial activities of the Clinical Departments, the Clinical Practice Group (CPG) and/or Administrative units.

  • Prepares, reviews and distributes monthly financial statements of the Clinical Departments, the Clinical Practice Group (CPG), and/or the Administrative units.

  • Prepares variance analysis related to monthly financial statements and presents to UPG management and leadership.

  • Collaborate with other departments to streamline and improve financial processes and provide support as needed.

  • Answers accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data.

  • Supports month-end and year-end close process.

  • Ensures adherence to UPG policies and procedures in reviewing journal entries, invoices and other requests for payment for account coding and proper authorization of expenditure before payments are processed by Accounts Payable.

  • Assists UPG Finance Team in preparation and monitoring of financial and audit activities and ensures proper communication of transactions involved.

  • Completes various complex account reconciliations.

  • Prepares and distributes the monthly invoices for the leased employees, including other salary/fringe reimbursements, to the University of Virginia and/or the UVA Medical Center and tracks the payments upon receipt.

  • Reviews and approves accounts payable invoices relevant to assigned units as needed.

  • Provides backup support to Financial Operations team as needed for accounts receivable, accounts payable and/or payroll.

  • Assists in preparation and documentation of applicable policies and procedures of financial operations as appropriate.

  • Recommends changes to policies and procedures to improve the efficiency of the UPG Accounting team and the accuracy and timely completion of accounting related duties.

  • Provides assistance to UPG administration, management, and leadership on accounting related issues.

  • Carefully reviews all completed work and consistently works with a high degree of accuracy.

  • Understands how assigned duties and work contributes to the larger processes within the UPG Accounting team.

  • Maintains appropriate skills in accounting and software applications by attending training sessions, using, and exploring the tools available.

  • Completes other tasks and/or projects as assigned by management and leadership.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education:

Associates degree with coursework in accounting or related field.

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field preferred.

Experience:

At least 2 years of demonstrated general ledger accounting experience. At least 2 years of practical experience with spreadsheet applications.

Licensure:

None

Skills:

  • Intermediate proficiency in applications of word processing, accounting and spreadsheet software.

  • Strong analytic capabilities.

  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks and provide a high degree of attention to detail.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
