University of Virginia Opportunity for an Occupational Therapist or Physical Therapist for UVA Outpatient Therapy Services - Wheelchair Seating Clinic in Charlottesville, Virginia

The UVA Outpatient Therapy Services team is seeking an Occupational Therapist or Physical Therapist for their wheelchair seating clinic in Charlottesville, VA.

This position is for a full time Wheelchair Seating Specialist position that will work in the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department for seating evaluations of complex clients. This position requires self-sufficiency and self-direction as it will be the sole lead therapist for the seating clinic.

  • Occupational Therapist 2 or Physical Therapist 2 consistently provides effective direct care to a variety of complex patients. In doing so the Therapist acts as a role model and supervisor for junior staff and helps identify patients who have unmet occupational therapy needs. A Therapist is focused on expanding clinical knowledge and skills beyond the entry level and sharing this knowledge through in-services and participates as an active member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team. The Therapist acts as a role model and may supervise other staff. This level of therapist seeks as well as provides feedback for improved clinical practice and begins to assume a leadership role receiving mentoring in this process. Therapists at this level may be asked to contribute to performance appraisals.

  • Performs occupational therapy/physical therapy evaluations according to professional standards and departmental guidelines.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of intervention options and executes a program of skilled occupational therapy/physical therapy intervention.

  • Actively participates in professional growth of self and others.

  • Actively participates in quality improvement and program development.

  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

ATP certification or SMS certification preferred

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Therapy/Physical Therapy

Experience: 6 months relevant experience.

Licensure: Licensed to practice in Occupational Therapy in the Commonwealth of Virginia. New grads must be licensed within 6 months of hire. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Job requires frequently bending/stooping/walking (distance: ½ mile). Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 20 – 50lbs. May be exposed to blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
