University of Virginia Certified Surgical Technologist (Scrub Tech) - Outpatient Surgery Center Operating Room (OPSC - OR) in Charlottesville, Virginia

$10,000.00 sign on bonus may be available to qualified candidates with a two-year work commitment, in accordance with UVA policy.

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to gathering needed supplies and instrumentation for surgical procedures according to the surgeon preference card. Maintains the sterile field and anticipating the needs of the surgical team. Is constantly vigilant to the adherence of aseptic technique by all team members. Is Self-efficient in general surgical procedures, select specialty cases and is able to precept new hires.

  • Differentiates between sterile and unsterile items processed by various sterilization methods.

  • Demonstrates a higher level of surgical case preparation by the gathering of surgical instruments, supplies and equipment necessary for general to moderately complex surgical procedures.

  • Provides a higher level of safe patient care.

  • Demonstrates a clear understanding of the principles of aseptic technique and sterile conscience.

  • Has a working knowledge of surgical procedures and patient anatomy.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of environmental safety practices for patient, self and team at all times.

  • Acts as a preceptor for new staff in the scrub role.

  • Assumes beginning leadership roles under the guidance of a mentor.

  • One year of experience working as a surgical technologist.

Position Compensation Range: $22.39 - $35.82 Hourly

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: HS Diploma or equivalent. Graduated from accredited Surgical Technologist Training Program.

Experience: One year of experience required.

Licensure: BLS Required. Current Registration with Virginia Board of Medicine required at the time of hire. Certified to practice as a Surgical Technologist by NBSTSA (The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting) or NCCT (The National Center for Competency Testing) required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Job requires standing for prolonged periods; Repetitive motion: passing instruments, lifting heavy instrument sets. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull >50 - 100lbs. May be exposed to cold, radiation, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
