This Opportunity
WSP USA is currently seeking a Sr. Environmental/Transportation Planner to make a significant contribution to WSP USA’s strategic plan to increase our presence in the North Carolina transportation market for NEPA planning and transportation planning. The Environmental/Transportation Planner will conduct transportation planning studies and analysis, in the Southeast United States, and be based out of the Raleigh, NC office, or potentially for the Charlotte, NC office. Responsibilities will involve conducting a wide range of environmental planning activities including, documentation for transportation projects under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), data analysis, assessment of demographic data, geographic information systems (GIS) mapping and analysis and task lead for environmental and planning efforts. Opportunities may also exist to assist with corridor studies, data analytics, comprehensive transportation plans, master transit plans, travel demand modeling, cost estimating and long range transportation plans.
Your Impact
Conducts or assists with a range of environmental studies for NEPA documentation, including needs assessments, modal analyses, community impact assessments, and coordination with specialty disciplines such as cultural resources, ecology and noise and air analysts.
Collecting, analyzing and interpreting data (i.e. economic, demographic, land use, fiscal, etc.) and using data management tools such as GIS.
Composing correspondence and reports for project activities.
Technical writing and report preparation.
Assisting with managing project tasks, including staffing, budget and quality.
Participating and coordinating public and stakeholder public meetings and public participation/outreach processes.
Successfully delivering projects.
Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a confident and professional manner.
Conduct research as appropriate and assist with proposal development.
Remain current in latest environmental planning subject matter, practices, regulations, and techniques.
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Planning, Urban Planning, Geography, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience.)
5 to 7 years of progressively responsible experience in environmental documentation and transportation planning.
Experience working with State Departments of Transportation, local governments, and transit agencies.
Specific experience conducting environmental studies for the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
Ability to effectively present and communicate ideas orally and in written form.
Critical, strategic and creative thinking skills.
Experience with discipline-specific software (i.e., ArcGIS, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch-Up).
Proficiency with business writing, office automation and communication software, technology, and tools.
Developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, and identify the most effective solutions to accomplish objectives of assigned projects.
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with transportation agencies and understanding federal and state environmental regulations and policies.
