Charleston Stevedoring Company Mechanic in Charleston, South Carolina

[The Mechanic is responsible for the daily inspection, malfunctions, repairs and rebuilding of lift equipment such as forklifts, terminal vehicles, and other equipment. The Mechanic reports directly to the MandR Manager. [ESSENTIALS FUNCTIONS:]{calibri",sans-serif"=""}]{calibri",sans-serif"=""}

  • Must have the ability to operate and complete a daily inspection of forklifts, terminal vehicles, and other equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance per manufacturers recommendations on equipment to ensure that it is safe and in compliance with all federal and state regulations.
  • Ensures that services provided are in compliance with all safety procedures.
  • Analyze and diagnose any potential malfunctions, defects, damage or excessive wear.
  • Repair or replace any malfunctioning components, parts and other mechanical equipment and subassemblies.
  • Regularly test overhauled equipment to ensure that it is operating efficiently.
  • Dismantle and reassemble equipment using a variety of hoist, power and hand tools.
  • Responsible for directing others who are engaged in cleaning and assisting with assembly and disassembly of equipment.
  • Review Operators Vehicle Condition Report before equipment is operated, to ensure there are no deficiencies that need to be addressed.
  • Ensures accuracy while maintaining all equipment maintenance files and pre vessel check lists.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Required to wear Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), such as safety toe boots, protective hard hat, ear protection and safety glasses, when applicable.
  • Maintain company values, rules, policies and procedures are met to fulfill the company mission, as well as productive relationships with customers and vendors.
  • Responsible for special tasks requested by management and/or supervisor.
  • All other duties as assigned.

  • Valid Drivers License and TWIC card.
  • High School diploma or Vocational degree
  • Advanced knowledge of maintenance industry from a vocational education institute, apprenticeship, on the job training and/or similar work experience.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills to coordinate with a variety of individuals.
  • Forklift and Heavy Machinery Certifications preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
