Air Mobility Command Recreation Assistant (Fitness & Sports) in Charleston AFB, South Carolina

Summary About the position: This position will be assigned to the Military Community Gym at Joint Base Charleston. Physical Effort: Must be physically fit and capable of lifting, walking, and moving up to 45 pounds. Responsibilities Opens/Closes Fitness and Sports Center and related areas for business and use. Greets facility users and conducts facility tours and equipment orientations. Follows established sanitization procedures to ensure facility and equipment are in a clean and ready state. Assists in facility operations including the care and maintenance of equipment, supplies, and indoor/outdoor facilities. Properly stows, organizes, inventories, and secures activity equipment and supplies in correct storage locations. Recommends new programming activities, to include type of format and resources the activity would require. Special emphasis is on activities and programs for service members and their families, and all eligible patrons of the Fitness and Sports Center. Could be asked to carry out the following: recurring group fitness activities such as classes, command physical training, special events, outreach, competitive games and events, and incentive programming. Compiles and analyzes information from a number of different sources, including past programs, facility demographics, and current popular programs in other communities. Evaluates the information and makes a judgment on what meets the needs of the specific clientele groups. Assists in promoting and marketing practices/strategies. During installation exercises and other special conditions, performs all required procedures per local instructions. Sets up rooms to support meeting group needs. Decorates facility or event area(s) to reflect holiday and/or program themes. Reports facility repairs, safety issues, and maintenance requirements according to procedures. Assists in maintaining facility and equipment to meet operational standards. Works with other staff members, volunteers and/or individual/personal services contract personnel. Enforces and adheres to all departmental and command implemented guidelines, policies, and procedures currently in place or as they may be amended. Performs other duties as required or assigned. Personal/Group Fitness training certification(s) from an NCCA accredited entity(ACSM, ACE, NSCA, NASM, ISSA, etc.) preferred. Must have experience which provides a working familiarity with the routines and procedures followed in fitness related activities or programs; and practical knowledge and/or experience of recreational activities equipment, rules and procedures which involves recreational work in the area of specialty in which the position is assigned. Must have Adult CPR/AED/First Aid certification or be able to obtain within 60 days of employment. Must have the ability to communicate professionally both orally and in writing. Must possess skill in dealing with the public. Must be able to read, write, and speak English. Work requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing; recurring activities such as bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, and reaching; pushing/pulling loaded hand trucks/carts; and recurring lifting of moderately heavy items. Must be physically able to frequently lift and carry boxes or other pieces of equipment of up to 45 pounds. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution. FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.
