Summary: The sanitation department is the foundation of our food safety programs and plays a vital role in the program’s success. Each team member is responsible for maintaining the food safe quality of our product by following standard operating procedures to exceed industry and federal cleaning and sanitizing requirements. Is a proactive thinker by continuously learning about federally mandated standards, is innovative, efficient, and effective in the cleaning and sanitizing process. This individual supervises and coordinates activities of team members engaged in duties concerned with housekeeping and sanitation programs inside a bakery facility including the building exterior.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Inspects products and equipment for conformity to federal and state sanitation laws and plant standards.

  • Directs cleaning of equipment and work areas.

  • Creates and implements training plans for sanitation and housekeeping employees.

  • Evaluates and maintains accuracy and completion of all information in the master cleaning schedule.

  • Manages staff through hiring, handling employee relations situations, evaluating performance, and coaching.

  • Inspects premises for unsanitary practices and conditions.

  • Confers with management and production personnel on sanitation problems, and recommends changes in equipment, plant layout, lighting, ventilation, or work practices to improve sanitation standards and purity of product.

  • Compiles required reports regarding regular inspections, sanitation violations, and steps taken to resolve deficiencies.

  • Routes reports to designated plant personnel.

  • Coordinates work activities with the maintenance department.

  • Studies production schedules and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job assignment.

  • Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations.

  • Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.

  • Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems.

  • Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.

  • Confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments.

  • Orders housekeeping and sanitation supplies for production facility.

  • Performs activities of workers supervised.

  • Adheres to and enforces to safety, food safety, quality, and Good Manufacturing Practices regulations.

  • Reports safety, food safety, and quality problems to personnel with authority to initiate action.

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    Directly supervises sanitation employees in accordance with policies and applicable laws. Is responsible for planning, assigning and directing the work of sanitation employees. Trains employees and assesses training results and performance of employees. Responsible for addressing employee complaints and resolving problems. Responsible for coaching, counseling and administering discipline as necessary. Assists in the hiring process of sanitation employees as needed.

    Education and/or Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED;

  • Associate’s Degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school;

  • Three to five years’ related experience and/or training; or

  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Related experience in food environment.

    Language Skills:

    Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.

    Mathematical Skills:

    Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.

    Reasoning Ability:

    Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

    Computer Skills:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word software.

    Physical Demands:

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk. The employee is frequently required to stand, use hands to fingers, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee is required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
