Principal Data Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing data pipelines and architectures to support the scalable and efficient processing of large datasets in the Azure cloud environment. It plays a key role in developing strategies for data storage, retrieval, and analysis, ensuring high availability and performance of data-driven applications.

The Engineer is also responsible for managing the data services activities and designing data governance within the Olympus digital unit function. They are also responsible for maintaining the highest levels of data competency, data policies, data usage, data quality and reporting capabilities across the organization.

Job Duties

  • Data Strategy, governance & Implementation.

  • Drive the business objectives of the digital unit by ensuring best of class data management function that is adaptable and scalable with the growing business needs.

  • Develop robust, scalable data models and architectures to support the storage, processing, and analysis of large datasets in Azure. This involves choosing the appropriate Azure data services (like One Lake, Kusto Database, HDS and Azure Cosmos DB) to meet business requirements.

  • Provide data governance guidelines involving proper data classification, data policies, data quality and other activities around data and analytics functions.

  • Design and implement data pipelines that efficiently ingest, process, and distribute data across multiple Azure services. This includes optimizing data flows, ensuring data quality, and integrating real-time data processing solutions.

  • Partner with business analysts and architects to develop technical architectures for strategic projects and initiatives.

  • Provide oversight, strategic thought leadership, and innovative solutions towards maturing a data strategy, architecture, and service capabilities.

  • Leverage advanced database systems including data warehouses, data marts, and models needed for business, financial and operational analysis and/or reporting with Microsoft Azure technologies.

Job Qualifications

Required:

  • BS/BA degree, ideally in computer science, engineering, or a comparable background.

  • Minimum of 10 years of programming experience with Python.

  • Minimum of 6 years of experience working with Microsoft Azure related data technologies.

  • Expertise in data pipeline tools (e.g., Apache Airflow, DBT).

  • Minimum of 6 months experience in Microsoft Fabric One Lake.

  • Experience in working with Medallion architecture.

  • Experience with Security concepts like Managed Private Endpoints, Data Gateways, Sensitivity Labels etc.

  • Expertise in the design and implementation of enterprise data store, data warehouse, data governance, data quality management, real-time data ingestion, data modeling, and metadata management

  • Proficiency in tools like Spark or DataBricks to handle big data.

  • Container management and orchestration experience with Kubernetes

  • Traveling: 10%

Preferred:

  • Certification in Microsoft DP-600 is a big plus.

The anticipated base pay range for this full-time position working at this location is $125,634.00 - $175,888.00 / year, plus potential for annual bonus (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements). Olympus considers a variety of factors when determining actual compensation for this position including: level of experience, working location, and relevant education and certifications.
