Overview The Utah Conservation Corps (UCC) Regional Coordinator (Program Coordinator I) is primarily responsible for supervision of field crews, oversight and delivery of seasonal trainings, and logistical support. The Regional Coordinator provides leadership and technical expertise to regional field staff, seasonal field logistics technicians, crew leaders and field crews, ensuring all field crew members are adequately equipped and prepared to work in a safe environment.

Support of field crews and operations may include: visiting and mentoring crews at their project sites, training field crews, performing project site visits, managing logistics, scheduling work, maintaining tools and equipment, working in the field office, and assisting with crew member recruitment efforts.

This position involves frequent travel, extended camping and irregular hours during training seasons and organizing and scheduling a rotating on-call schedule. The Regional Coordinator must have strong leadership and communication skills, flexibility, capacity for self-direction, a passion for conservation work, a mature and professional demeanor, strong teamwork and collaborative skills, and a desire to provide mentorship to emerging conservation leaders.

Responsibilities Supervises UCC field crews and support staff - 45%

  • Supervises field office staff, AmeriCorps members, student employees and volunteers
  • Completes mid-term and final evaluations for all Field Logistics Technicians, Crew Leaders, and Crew Members
  • Ensures compliance with UCC, AmeriCorps, and USU policies, including enforcing disciplinary procedures when necessary
  • Oversees the day-to-day management of conservation projects
  • Supports specialty crews (e.g. women's+, LGBTQIA+, accessibility surveying, bicycle, veterans, youth, etc.) to support diversity in corps operations
  • Provides technical, logistical, and administrative support to field crews
  • Conducts regular risk management and policy audits which includes collecting and reporting data
  • Serves as a role model, resource, mediator, and advisor for crews while maintaining professional conduct
  • Assists Operations Coordinator and Assistant Director in project and training scheduling
  • Performs quality control checks on crew-collected project data, safety forms, vehicle mileage and crew project hours

Trains field logistics technicians, crew leaders and members - 25%

  • Trains and supervises up to 180 seasonal AmeriCorps members including: Field Logistics Technicians, Crew Leaders, and Crew Members.
  • Develops training courses such as:
  • Trail maintenance and construction
  • Proper tool use and maintenance
  • Pre- and post-project planning and organization
  • Chainsaw use and safety
  • Critical incident scenarios
