Honors Administrative Assistant/Advisor

 

The Honors Administrative Assistant / Advisor provides administrative assistance to the Honors Program Director and serves as an advisor to Honors students. The job requires a solid understanding of the Honors Program's operations and the Honors student population. This position serves a valuable role in the recruitment, retention and by developing meaningful relationships with students and aids in their desire for completion. Also serves as the main point of contact for the Honors Program, creates program communications through various channels, and may represent the program on campus, to prospective students and the larger community.

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

• Advise and assist students in the planning of their honors academic education (these activities include: Assisting with creating degree-specific honors academic plans, meeting with Freshmen-Junior honors students before registration, communicating honors course updates to students, and communicating with other academic advisors in relation to honors requirements and updates).

• Update, maintain, and have a detailed understanding of honors student records through conducting regular audits for honors students' progress toward graduation.

• Assist the Director with various office tasks (these activities may include informing Director of purchasing needs, updating the weekly newsletter, creating and distributing surveys, generating and distributing announcements and advertisements, producing program reports).

• Assist the Director with the management of the Honors Office budget as it pertains to the various financial accounts the office oversees.

• With assistance from the Director, manage the student office workers and attend regular meetings with the office staff.

• Assist with data collection and reports for the honors program.

• Attend and provide support at honors program functions (may include some evenings and weekends).

• Oversee the Honors program email account, responding to students, parents, faculty, and staff in a timely and professional manner.

• Meet with prospective Honors students and their parents.

• Carry out other office and clerical duties as assigned.

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

 

• Bachelor's degree.

• At least 2 years of experience working in a professional office and/or customer service.

• Knowledge of a variety of software programs (Microsoft Word, Google Suite, Adobe, Canva, and Mailerlite, etc.).

• Excellent customer service, organizational, and time-management skills.

• Knowledge of professional and organizational communication, higher education, student affairs, business management, graphic design, and/or program planning/evaluation preferred.

• Demonstrate ability to build rapport and develop relationships.

• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

• Understanding of Honors Program policies and procedures.
