Actalent Electrical Design Drafter in Cary, North Carolina

Description:

The Engineer would be responsible for the hardware design of industrial control panel schematics and 2D enclosure and back panel layouts using AutoCAD Electrical, and other design tools, BOM creation, and CAD-engineering support related to the scope of industrial controls designs and installations.

  • Understanding and ability to advise others on related electrical codes and standards, including UL 508A hardware design, UL 698A, NFPA 70, NFPA 79, NFPA 70E, ISO 13849.

  • Comfortable visiting customer facilities, walking equipment floors, complying with customer safety requirements, co-authoring project and design scope.

  • Provide detailed technical design work for others related to UL 508A control panel hardware design which includes, three-phase systems, low voltage equipment, PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, local networks, servos, pneumatics, VFDs, and safety equipment.

  • Ability to generate engineering documentation, schematics, bills of material, create hardware designs and layouts, read and understand mechanical drawings, P&IDs, and system architecture documents and specifications.

  • CAD-engineering design support of non-panel-related projects such as facility conduit layouts, one-line diagrams, and P&IDs.

  • Assist with quoting, estimating, and CAD sketches as part of the pre-sale process.

  • Design coordination between PM, customer, engineering, and manufacturing shop.

  • Support projects and production kickoff design reviews.

  • Daily support of manufacturing, support of installations, aftermarket product life cycles, and mods

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

-Associate’s Degree

  • 2 years' experience with AutoCAD Electrical design or EPLAN in a related field

  • Control panel design/layout; schematics

  • Knowledge of UL 508 and NEC

  • BOM's, parts lists

  • Proven ability to understand and interpret electrical schematics, 2D layouts, and mechanical fit-up, and convert BOMs into drawings.

  • Successful demonstration of responsibilities and knowledge as presented above.

-Familiarity with a variety of hardware platforms to include Rockwell Automation, Siemens, Schneider, Eaton, Phoenix Contact, and related common control panel components.

-Proficient in the use of standard office computer programs such as MS Office and Google Suite.

-PLC, HMI, VFD, and networking programming are a plus.

-Previous experience with hardware selection for electrical systems is required, including ICP hardware design, power and control components, sensors, process equipment, networking, instrumentation, automation, and industrial controls.
