UNUM Senior Tech Lead (.Net) in Carlow, Ireland

Our Story

Unum Technology Centre in Carlow serves as a strategic software development and IT services centre supporting Unum, a leading provider of income protection in the US. Our team of IT professionals build solutions and critical business applications to digitally transform the way we do business.

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Software Engineer to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will act as a Technical Lead for multiple development teams, overseeing technical decisions and ensuring the delivery of high-quality software solutions and optimized processes. This is an individual contributor role reporting directly to the engineering manager.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of software solutions using our technology stack (C#, .NET, .NET Core , MongoDB, Vue.js).

  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to the development teams.

  • This role is more Lead orientated than development focused

  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality, scalable, and efficient software solutions.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and ship new features.

  • Continuously discover, evaluate, and implement new technologies to maximize development efficiency.

  • Identify technical challenges and risks early in the development process and propose effective solutions to address them.

  • Implement and enforce coding standards, best practices, and development methodologies to maintain high code quality and efficiency.

  • Stay updated with the latest technologies, tools, and trends in software engineering and recommend their adoption where appropriate.

Must have

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field.

  • 6+ years of hands-on experience in .Net software development.

  • 4+ years’ operating in a Technical lead or in a Senior capacity with expertise in C#, .NET6, .NET CORE etc.

  • Strong experience in leading DevOps, CI/CD implementation and practice adoption

  • Deep understanding of software engineering principles, design patterns, and best practices.

  • Proven experience of software development lifecycle (SDLC) and Agile methodologies.

  • Deep understanding of database design, development, and optimization techniques using SQL, Mongo etc

  • Experience with web technologies including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Vue.js, jQuery etc

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Xamarin, MAUI mobile development
