Gentex Corporation Senior Buyer/Planner in CARBONDALE, Pennsylvania

PURPOSE:

Evaluates suppliers, quotes and services to determine most appropriate suppliers. Awards contracts and monitors adherence. Manages ongoing communications with suppliers. Ensures products and or services are delivered on time to meet customer requirements.

 

 *DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: *

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

· Coordinates end to end procurement planning and execution activities related to assigned commodities and/or suppliers beginning with supplier qualification through the intent to purchase (based on approved requisitions) through order negotiation and placement and the delivery process for production and MRO (office and shop) materials, supplies and services

· Assures that the purchase order contract requirement is delivered on schedule, at the negotiated price, and meets the quality standards of the company including all necessary shipment paperwork and quality certificates. Solicits and evaluates competitive proposals for the requested commodity or service

· Establish specifications in terms of optimal quantity to purchase, quality required, and the cost impact on budget

· Select suppliers according to the type of product, quality provided by the supplier, to create strategic partnerships. Evaluates the requirements including preliminary specifications, preferred supplier, schedule requirements -- provides regular situational feedback to management or program team

· Establish/Maintain Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) -- working collaboratively with suppliers vital to the organizational success to maximize the potential value of those relationships

· Negotiate contracts that include costs, terms and conditions, customer flow downs, FAR/DFAR clauses, warranties, delivery, handling, and penalties for late delivery or cost overruns. Negotiates the best possible cost, quality, lead time, and schedule for the requirement -- offers alternative solutions to achieve business objectives

· Lead the team that drives improvement in supplier performance utilizing a system that monitors, measures, and provides feedback on supplier performance -- issue corrective actions to address performance GAPs and follow up to closure

· Use the master production schedule, inventory record file, and item master file for the MRP process to plan and execute supply plans for assigned products and/or commodities

· Utilize state of the art Supply Chain Management practices in the development and execution of lean business processes

· Understand the life cycle of assigned products or commodities or service items (MRO) and how the life cycle stages relate to supply of parts and supplier management.

· Regularly solicits current lead time from suppliers and maintains item master with up to date lead time information

· Schedule flexibility & travel to support critical deadlines may be required.

· Other duties as assigned

 

Requirements

  

EDUCATION AND/OR PROFESSIONAL LICENSE(s):

The ideal candidate shall possess a Bachelor's degree in business, logistics, or supply chain degree. APICS or CPM certification is desired.

  

*EXPERIENCE: *

· Requires 8 -- 10 years in purchasing and procurement experience in a manufacturing environment.

· Must have practical experience in working with an ERP/MRP manufacturing planning system.

· Aerospace and defense procurement systems background highly desirable.

· Contractor Purchasing System Review (CPSR)

· Socio-economic procurement (Small Business)

  

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

· Analytical/Problem solving skills

· Negotiating skills

· Purchasing Processes (Supply Agreements, Blanket Ordering, Vendor Follow-up, etc.)

· Computer skills (Microsoft Office, MAPICS, etc.)

· Ability to handle multiple programs and tasks simultaneously and efficiently

· Able to work independently in a fast-paced environment, have a positive professional demeanor

· Excellent time management skil s and attention to detail

· Blueprint reading skills

No supervisory responsibilities

 

CONTACT WITH OTHERS:

The Position requires interaction with Suppliers, program managers, management and other requiring procurement services.

 

PHYSICAL/MENTAL/COMMUNICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee may lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by the job may include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The individual must have a high level of comprehension, and a high level of general, verbal, written, and numerical intelligence.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Works majority of the day in a climate-controlled environment, except for or otherwise specified, performing work in the warehouse or manufacturing areas which are subject to changes in temperature and/or noise.

Gentex's Carbondale facility is located in Northeastern Pennsylvania in Lackawanna County. Carbondale, PA is about twenty miles north of Scranton, PA, 50 miles south of Binghamton, NY, and about 125 miles from New York City and Philadelphia. The area hosts numerous nearby state parks, nature preserves and local colleges and universities, including The University of Scranton and Marywood University.
