Gentex Corporation Buyer/Planner in CARBONDALE, Pennsylvania

PURPOSE:

Directs and plans the purchasing and procurement of materials, parts and equipment. Plan, implement, and coordinate production and material processes to enable the efficient initiation, production and timely shipments of product that conforms to company requirements and customer expectations.

*DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: *

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

· Coordinates all activities related to procurement commodity and following up with intent to purchase through the delivery process

· Analyzes the requirements of the commodity, including preliminary specifications, preferred supplier and date commodity needed for production utilization

· Negotiates the lowest possible cost for the commodity balanced against the optimum quality and schedule needs

· Assures that the commodity is delivered on schedule, at the negotiated price, and meets the quality standards of the company

· Maintains a timely control of orders, amendments, shipping notices, and other documents to assure accurate retention of records

· Schedule flexibility to support critical deadlines may be required. 

· MRP Systems -- the process of ensuring materials and products are available for production and delivery to customers, maintaining the lowest possible level of inventory and planning manufacturing activities, delivery schedules and purchasing activities.

· Regularly solicits current lead time from suppliers and maintains item master with up to date lead time information.

· Develop and maintain daily/weekly schedules (dispatch list) for production

· Support the development of the monthly ship schedule (30-day) with Customer Orders to track status and revenue to plan

· Participate in daily meeting with manufacturing management to communicate daily schedules and status of performance to plan

· Insure material and labor resource availability at start of production MO's.

 

Requirements

EDUCATION AND/OR PROFESSIONAL LICENSE(s):

· The ideal candidate shall possess a Bachelor's degree in business, logistics, or supply chain. 

  *EXPERIENCE: *

· Requires 2-4 years in purchasing and procurement experience in a manufacturing setting.

· This position requires a minimum of four (4) years experience working within a MRP environment and scheduling a manufactured product.

· Must have basic computer skills 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

· Analytical/Problem solving skills

· Purchasing Processes (Supply Agreements, Blanket Ordering, Vendor Follow-up, etc.)

· Computer skills (Microsoft Office, MAPICS, etc.)

· Able to work independently in a fast-paced environment, have a positive professional demeanor

 

POSITION SUPERVISES (by department name or job title):

No supervisory responsibilities. 

 

CONTACT WITH OTHERS:

The position requires interaction with Suppliers, management, and others requiring procurement services.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL/COMMUNICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee may lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by the job may include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The individual must have a high level of comprehension, and a high level of general, verbal, written, and numerical intelligence.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Works majority of the day in a climate-controlled environment, with the exception of or otherwise specified, performing work in the warehouse or manufacturing areas which are subject to changes in temperature and/or noise.

TRAVEL:

Generally, travel is not required

LOCATION:

Gentex's Carbondale facility is located in Northeastern Pennsylvania in Lackawanna C unty. Carbondale, PA is about twenty miles north of Scranton, PA, 50 miles south of Binghamton, NY, and about 125 miles from New York City and Philadelphia. The area hosts numerous nearby state parks, nature preserves and local colleges and universities, including The University of Scranton and Marywood University.
