Req# 29560 Aultman Health Foundation, CANTON, OH AULTMAN HOSPITAL Aultman Health Foundation Full Time, Afternoon Shift, 4 - 10-hour shifts DEPARTMENT SUMMARY Under the supervision of the Blood Bank Assistant Manager and in accordance with hospital and laboratory policies and procedures, performs moderate and high-complexity testing in the blood bank to ensure blood/blood products are safely administered to the patient. PURPOSE OF POSITION The purpose of this position is to perform testing on patient blood samples to ensure that patients receive the correct blood products for transfusion in order to minimize potential adverse reactions and to prepare blood products for transfusion. QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor of Science degree, including twelve-month training in an approved program for Medical Laboratory Science, with certification as a Clinical Lab Scientist by an approved certifying agency or an Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Science with certification as a Medical Lab Technician by an approved certifying agency. Prior experience is preferred but not required. RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS Perform testing and quality control using approved laboratory procedures and instrumentation. Exercise professional judgment in order to recognize, prioritize and facilitate varying test requests and workload in an efficient manner. Participate in quality improvement initiatives. Perform instrument/equipment maintenance according to department guidelines and manufacturer's specifications. Mentor students by providing a positive experiential learning environment. Assist Technical Specialist with duties as assigned. Think critically and work efficiently in high stress situations, such as Massive Transfusions and Traumas. Manage product inventory and ensure that inventory remains at a level necessary to support operations. Communicate effectively with colleagues and other clinical areas. SKILLS Must be detail-oriented to products and quality. Have ability to communicate effectively. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work eight hours a day. This unit requires has 24/7 coverage. Shifts are variable to volume of department. Rotation as needed. Work weekends and holidays as assigned. Lunch periods and breaks are coordinated with other staff members to maintain adequate floor coverage.
