SUMMARY: Operate, direct, and oversee the manufacturing process of grating to ensure the proper spacing and piece size as defined by the job traveler or instructions. This process will include working with several others as part of a team and will require the ability to coordinate, communicate, and work well with others. Work is reviewed by a supervisor to ensure quality and accuracy.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Review job travelers and identify what material, process, and press or machine is needed to perform the requirements of the traveler.

Assembles work and assists production lines, assist with setups and changeovers.

Communicate effectively with and work well with others, including, but not limited to, during shift changes.

Follow all operating procedures, process instructions, and safety procedures.

Accurately complete necessary paperwork, including time cards, job travelers and material/bundle tags.

Keep personal and common work areas clean and organized.

Recognize and immediately report to supervision all quality issues.

Perform other duties and cross train as assigned by supervisor.

 

EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE AND PROFICIENCIES:  A High School diploma or equivalent is required.  The candidate must have the ability to safely operate overhead cranes, forklifts, and various hand and power tools. The candidate must also be able to read and understand standard and metric measures and be able to add and subtract two digit numbers and multiply and divide by 10s and 100s without the use of a calculator. Candidates with two or more years' of prior manufacturing experience with a steel or aluminum manufacturer are preferred.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee engages in repetitive movement tasks that require the employee to stand, walk, stoop, bend, reach, grasp, push and pull grating material of various size and weights for long periods of time.  The employee will regularly lift or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 75 pounds. Such tasks must be undertaken using proper lifting techniques and may be performed with help from another employee and/or other available resources (e.g. lifting or moving equipment).

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:  While performing the essential duties of this job the employee is regularly working on the production floor.  The work environment requires the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).  The employee will experience exposure to noise, dust, heat and cold on a regular basis and is exposed to machine and tool hazards that require care and attention to safety rules and standards.
