DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES: Position Title: Asset Specialist Intern -- Fiber & Power

Role Asset Specialist Intern-- Fiber & Power: Ensures the integrity and 'readiness' of fiber & power assets (Hubs, Panels, Splices, Slacks, Fiber, Power Cables, Up/Down Converters, Nodes, Circuits, etc.). This position ensures the quality of fiber and power asset data and monitors all proposed changes to the assets. Works closely with engineering, construction, operations personnel, 811 Services team, sales, and product development to ensure database accuracy, maintain data quality, register conduit and support other departments to meet company objectives. Analyzes, manages, and resolves issues in a timely manner.

Responsibilities  * Review fiber construction engineering drawings and maintenance/inspection data to identify changes to database models and maps.  * Enter and manipulate data in Geographic Information System (GIS) applications which model telecommunications and power outside plant fiber optic systems as needed.  * Collaborate with fiber engineers, field operations personnel and others to QC fiber and power data and ensure asset integrity, resolve data conflicts, register conduit and update GIS database.  * Work with the Fiber Asset Manager to implement and enforce asset management policies, standards and procedures.  * Respond promptly to assigned tickets and work orders to ensure accurate data in the systems and provide maps and information as needed.  * Perform other duties as assigned or required.

Expectations   * Computer skills using Microsoft Office (Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Word), Microsoft SharePoint, and ability to quickly learn new systems, processes and procedures  * Experience with Microsoft Visio preferred  * Understanding of GIS data principles and data management  * Experience editing GIS data  * Strong written and oral communications skills  * Strong attention to detail and analytical skills  * Experience with GIS applications including, but not limited: to MapInfo, ESRI suite, Coordinate Geometry (COGO) and Auto CAD  * Ability to problem solve and provide alternative solutions  *  Ability to comprehend survey and construction drawings

Education/Certifications   * Currently enrolled as a full-time student in pursuit of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited higher education institution with an expected graduation date between December 2024 and June 2026  * Preferred field(s) of study: Geography, Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science or similar field.

Experience/Minimum Requirements   *  Ability to work full-time (40 hours/week) from June 3 to August 9, 2024  *  Authorization to work in the U.S. on a full-time, regular basis without additional sponsorship  *  Minimum one (1) year of classroom experience editing, updating GIS data in ArcGIS or MapInfo environment  *  Experience reading engineering, design, as-built, or redline drawings  * Familiarity with Telecommunications assets is a plus

Reports to: Manager, Fiber Engineering

Work Plans: This role falls into our hybrid work model working in the office on Monday through Thursday.  On Fridays, teammates on the hybrid schedule will have the option to work from the office or home.
