Responsibilities

Work Schedule:

Monday - Sunday, 24/7 services with shifts: 8, 10, or 12 and a 30 minute or 1 hour lunch.

Will not exceed 80 hours every 2 weeks

Job Specific Details and Tasks: The duties for the HCW include but are not limited to the following:

  • Perform routine diagnostic radiological procedures/services as appropriate to the TO.

  • Adhere to radiation safety policies and procedures in accordance with Radiology Department policies and procedures.

  • Send appropriate image series to the radiologist for reading according to MTF protocol.

  • Correctly position the patient for the examination and make technical adjustments necessary for the required examination. Determine if any special patient preparation is required.

  • Process digital images and submit for interpretation by radiologists.

  • Document all procedures and maintain records in accordance with MTF policy.

  • As directed, perform system calibrations and quality control tasks according to the manufacturer and MTF policy. Recognize artifacts and equipment errors and notify designated Government personnel of outlying values.

  • Initiate repair call procedures for equipment malfunctions by notifying designated Government personnel. Report problems to the Biomedical Repair Section and record the problem condition in the trouble call log book.

  • Observe and report to the radiologist any symptoms which have direct bearing on the patient's condition as a result of adverse reaction to contrast media and inform the radiologist of any condition requiring his/her attention. Recognize the need for and institute the necessary emergency measures for situations where a person requires resuscitation procedures due to cardiac or respiratory arrest.

Additional duties may be:

  • Perform diagnostic studies and procedures. These studies shall include all variances of extremities, chest, abdomen and head.

  • Operate or direct operations of radiological equipment provided for routine radiographic examinations.

  • Prepare the patient and adjust equipment for taking X-rays. Position and instruct patient regarding procedures. Administer contrast medium when ordered.

  • Explain the procedure to the patient and provide humane and appropriate care and communication to alleviate the patient’s fear of examination and correctly position the patient for examination.

  • Determine the proper voltage and current and desired exposure time. Set equipment. Arrange, attach or adjust immobilization and support devices, e.g. sandbags, binders, etc. to obtain precise positions, prevent patient from moving and lessen discomfort.

  • Perform correct film identification, ensuring that the patient’s name, date of examination, anatomical positioning markers are provided.

  • Operate and maintain radiological equipment designed for primary care services. Maintenance of equipment shall include daily film processor cleaning.

  • Perform unscheduled procedures as declared by the requesting physician “no matter what the indication” as directed. The study shall be performed, developed and all required administrative processing completed.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

* Education: Certificate. Graduate from an academic program accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT).

* Experience: One year of experience as a radiologic technologist or in the specialty area identified in the TO.

* Certificate: Certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) in the specialty identified in the TO.

* Life Support Certification: Current AHA or ARCBLS Certifications.

* Security: Must possess ability to pass a Government background check/security clearance.
