Summary:

The Grant Writer/Medical Writer works closely with the Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies at the Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine. This role involves developing, writing, and submitting grant proposals, actively identifying funding opportunities, preparing grant summaries for distribution to departments, managing budgets, writing budget justifications, composing narrative sections of proposals, completing attachments, writing manuscripts and abstracts/summaries, preparing presentations and posters, attending research committee meetings, taking meeting minutes, and performing other related functions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies to develop, write, and submit grant proposals, including the identification of funding opportunities and distribution of grant summaries.

  • Conduct extensive research for the need section of the proposal narrative, emphasizing unique data to demonstrate a significant need compared to other national proposals.

  • Write goals and SMART objectives for project approval by the Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies.

  • Prepare proposal narratives, reviewing for grammatical errors and ensuring professional quality.

  • Create comprehensive bibliographies for proposal narratives.

  • Collaborate with Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies to design draft budgets aligned with RFP specifications.

  • Articulate budget justifications and develop detailed work plans for project attachments.

  • Draft templates for letters of agreement and facilitate signature acquisition.

  • Complete all necessary attachments and collaborate with the grants office to ensure accuracy of grants.gov forms

  • Ensure internal documentation for Cayuse is complete and accurate.

  • Revise proposal narratives based on feedback from the Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies.

  • Utilize Adobe InDesign for proposal writing.

  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications:

  • To succeed in this role, the individual must possess strong written communication skills, demonstrating the ability to create clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive proposals and manuscripts.

  • A commitment to continuous learning, active participation in grant writing training, and collaboration with a team to seek editorial comments for strengthening grant narratives are essential.

  • Strong editing skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a team environment, handle multiple assignments simultaneously, and meet deadlines are crucial.

  • Experience with Adobe InDesign is required.

Education and/or Experience:

  • A Bachelor's Degree with at least three years of grant writing experience, preferably with the title of grant writer and/or medical writer, in a non-profit or academic environment is required.

  • Knowledge and skills in Microsoft Word and Excel are necessary.

  • Experience with Adobe InDesign is essential.

The Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine is located on the Glassboro, New Jersey west campus, 22 miles southeast of Philadelphia. The Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine plans to admit its first class of DVM students in 2025, pending accreditation approval. Facilities will include an academic teaching facility aimed at the delivery of pre-clinical training, a small animal teaching hospital, and a research facility.
