    Job Description

FACILITIES SERVICES COORDINATOR, Division of Comparative Medicine (DCM), to coordinate all building and technical support activities for the animal facilities at MIT. Will work with MIT Facilities personnel, outside contractors, and other Institute and DCM staff to solve building and equipment problems; and ensure the mechanical condition of the facilities meets all mandated compliance standards for animal health. The work entails both hands-on and managerial duties. Responsibilities include establishing and conducting a preventive maintenance program for cage washers, autoclaves, and automatic watering systems; providing quality assurance for painting, cleaning, HVAC adjustments, space changes, etc., done in the animal facilities and DCM headquarters; ensuring certification of biological safety cabinets and hoods; carrying out the pest control program; working with vendors/contractors regarding purchases, repairs, and/or installation of equipment; maintaining work order database; monitoring cagewash sanitation; making recommendations for equipment purchases, improvements in operational procedures, and reductions in costs; scheduling department vehicle maintenance and annual inspections; serving as the liaison between DCM and MIT Facilities for space change requests and/or the construction of new facilities; ensuring fire extinguishers are checked regularly and emergency exits are compliant; making minor mechanical, electrical, and carpentry repairs; maintaining supplies and tools; coordinating office moves, assembling desks/furniture, and moving equipment/furniture; and maintaining house CO2, oxygen, and medical air tanks.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: high school diploma or its equivalent; at least three years’ applicable experience, ideally in a research setting; driver's license; and strong interpersonal, communication, and writing skills.
