Job Description:

Mount Auburn Hospital

Mount Auburn Hospital is a 217-bed teaching hospital affiliated with Harvard Medical School and is located in Cambridge, MA. Founded in 1886, the hospital is dedicated to providing comprehensive healthcare to the residents of surrounding nearby communities. Mount Auburn Hospital is part of Beth Israel Lahey Health, a new healthcare system in Boston, MA and surrounding areas.

Interventional Radiology Department Description

The Interventional Radiology (IR) Department at Mount Auburn Hospital is a fast-paced department comprised of two IR procedure labs and a six bed holding room for pre- and post-procedure care. The clinical staff is comprised of a mixture of registered nurses and radiologic technologists. The department offers comprehensive diagnostic, therapeutic, and interventional procedures to our patients. Additionally, IR staff cares for patients undergoing CT-guided procedures in the CT scan suite and other various IR procedures done in the Operating Room.

General Expectations and Duties

Provides competent compassionate nursing care based on scientific principles and the use of the nursing process Provides direct nursing care for patients undergoing vascular and nonvascular interventional procedures in the Department Evaluates patient prior to procedure; monitors vital signs, assesses patient, and documents accordingly during procedure; recognizes changes in patient status and reports to physician; initiates nursing interventions according under the direction of the radiologist. Acquires/maintains competency in the administration and monitoring of conscious sedation under the direction of the Radiologist, Hospital policy, and State regulations without error. Acquires/maintains competency in radiation safety principles Performs advanced nursing duties as needed for the care of Interventional Radiology patients Acquires/maintains competency in specialized Interventional Radiology equipment, intravenous (IV) infusion pumps, bedside cardiac monitors, oxygen administration/airway equipment as needed for patient care Provides direct nursing care for patients undergoing vascular and nonvascular interventional procedures in the Department Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment Good interpersonal and communication skills Acquires/maintains competency in use of the electronic medical record Available to be on-call on a rotating basis as assigned by the department needs. On-call response time is no longer than 1 hour (45-minute or less response time is highly preferred). Performs all other duties as assigned

Requirements

Graduate of accredited school of nursing required Currently licensed Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts required Minimum 2-3 years of medical/surgical/telemetry experience required One year MICU, SICU, or ED experience preferred Current BLS required Current ACLS preferred Available for flexible dayshifts per departmental needs between the hours of 0630 and 1730 (mix of 8, 9, or 10-hour shifts may be utilized) Available for on-call shifts On-call requirement: 1-2 nights/week in addition to every 5th weekend for all full-time and part-time staff or per departmental needs Holidays per rotation Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment required Interventional Radiology or Cath Lab experience preferred Moderate sedation experience preferred Specialty nursing certification preferred (CRN, CEN, CCRN, CVRN)
