Unit Description

Sodexo Corporate Services is seeking a qualified Health, Safety & Environmental Manager to successfully support health and safety initiatives for a large life sciences client in Cambridge, Massachusetts . The Health, Safety & Environmental Manager will work collaboratively with a team of health, safety and environmental (HSE) professionals todirect the effective deployment of the HSE management systems, programs and strategic initiatives that builds and sustains a zero-harm safety culture.The Health, Safety & Environmental Manager will be a key member of the account leadership team managing multiple locations including Puerto Rico. The individual in this position will be responsible for assuring ongoing compliance with all Federal, State and Local EHS/AHJ regulations in conjunction with corporate and client guidelines. This role will initiate plans and managing resources to ensure efficient and cost-effective strategies for safety and environmental performance, in addition to partnering with leadership to instill an operational excellence culture. The successful applicant will possess leadership abilities in addition to technical knowledge in environmental, health and safety compliance with facilities operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review unit specific policies and procedures for controlling occupational health, safety, and environmental hazards that come under Federal, State, and local regulations.

  • Measure the effectiveness of Operational Excellence, HS&E strategies and programs in a fact based and objective manner.

  • Provide full support and take direction, as required, by the Corporate Services HSE Director.

  • Lead HS&E meetings, and ensure programs are being implemented and followed.

  • Assist site with the preparation of risk registers.

  • Complete Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental audits.

  • Recommend, justify, implement, and manage safety devices, equipment, and/or products that help protect employees and customers and mitigate losses.

  • Analyze equipment in the workplace and take action to reduce hazardous incidents.

  • Provide safety management and accident prevention assistance.

  • Provide in-house consulting (e.g., guidance and direction; serve as a resource; focus on accident prevention and risk mitigation) during Federal or State OSHA, EPA, DOT, EPA, fire marshal inspections, all HS&E investigations or complaints.

  • Produce HS&E progress reports as required to meet the HS&E objectives of the account.

  • Train and educate employees, as necessary and required, on HS&E topics.

  • Track accident cause and injury type trends and facilitate remedial action(s).

  • Communicate HS&E information to key management as directed.

  • Conduct routine on-site HS&E inspections and implement corrective action plans.

  • Manage Sodexo EHS Management System

  • Manage EHS related audits and provide recommendations where needed;

  • Participate in regulatory visits; partner with operations to maintain all required records, permits, and documentation.

  • Develop strategies, initiatives and activities; develop Key Performance Indicators (KPIs – lagging and leading) in sustaining EHS performance excellence.

  • Root Cause Investigations and Corrective Actions Management

Is this opportunity right for you? We are looking for candidates who have:

  • Associates degree or 2 years of equivalent experience

  • Candidate should have a solid grounding and practical experience working in the life sciences environment and facilities management areas. The candidate should also have a strong background in auditing.

  • Reporting: Ability to write persuasive and effective reports and communications clearly defining findings, their causes, and recommendations.

  • Must possess strong analytical skills. The ability to systematically gather information from various sources, analyze information, identify implications of data, draw appropriate conclusions, generate viable alternative solutions to a question or problem, and evaluate the consequences of choosing each alternative.

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) are required, with an ability to comfortably facilitate and present findings in client meetings.

  • Health Safety and Environmental professional, ideally within facilities management.

Please note, the salary range for this position is $95-105k annually.
