    Job Description

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR, Biological Engineering (BE)-Center for Microbiome Informatics and Therapeutics (CMIT) (https://microbiome.mit.edu/) , to join CMIT, a new research initiative at the intersection of clinical practice, microbiology, immunology, computational biology, and engineering. The center is part of MIT’s Biological Engineering Department and Institute for Medical Engineering and Science (IMES) program and collaborates closely with Massachusetts General Hospital (MGB) and the Broad Institute. The center was created to advance the science of the human microbiome and the treatment of diseases associated with an altered microbiome. Will work closely with codirectors at MIT, MGB, and the Broad Institute to build a world-class research program that spans disciplines, institutions, and research groups. Will be responsible for managing the daily operations of the center; implementing its educational goals; coordinating outreach to undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral trainees; directing and executing a broad range of business functions on behalf of the center, including resource development, alliance management, business planning, research portfolio development, communications, and stakeholder engagement; and contributing to the creative vision of the center.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: bachelor's (master’s/Ph.D. preferred) degree in biology, microbiology, immunology, or a related field; at least five years’ relevant professional experience, specifically, coordinating or conducting projects in high-throughput laboratory settings, program projects, or multiple principal investigator (PI) initiatives; strong management skills executing complex multi-institutional programs; excellent writing (including grant writing), educational program development, organizational, presentation, oral communication, and interpersonal skills; and ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. Seek someone who is fluent in the scientific and technical aspects of the center’s work and can interact closely with scientists, and is able to contribute to the creative vision of the center.
