    Job Description

ASSISTANT DEAN FOR FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATION, School of Architecture and Planning (SA&P), to serve as a senior administrative leader to the Dean, providing support and guidance on key decisions involving the planning, operations, and direction of financial, spatial, and other administrative activities of the School; acting as a strategist, consultant, and implementer, striving to streamline and improve the overall management of the School, based on the priorities of the Dean, School leaders, and MIT’s senior leadership; directing, overseeing, and influencing other managers and directors; overseeing resource management and monitoring annual spending of all funds ensuring that spending remains within available resources; maintaining sound fiscal and administrative practices that are in compliance with external sponsors and donors (federal, corporate, and private) and Institute policies and procedures; and representing the Dean in deliberations and negotiations associated with all aspects of administration.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: bachelor's degree and ten years of experience in all aspects of university administration, in a management role; excellent analytical, financial, and writing skills; advanced knowledge of the concepts, principles, and practices of accounting and budgeting and sponsored research administration; a working knowledge of principles and practices of strategic planning, development and evaluation; demonstrated organizational skills, tact, discretion, and ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters and manage changing and conflicting priorities; and advanced knowledge of databases, spreadsheets, and accounting principles. PREFERRED: master’s degree; knowledge of MIT financial, research administrative policies and procedures, and operational systems; and MIT experience. Job #24434-13
