BAE Systems Assistant Facility Security Officer (AFSO) in California, Maryland

Job Description

This opportunity offers a motivated professional a unique entry point to work across a broad range of activities. BAE Systems is looking to hire an Assistant Facility Security Officer (AFSO)/Contractor Program Security Officer (CPSO) for programs. The AFSO/CPSO will work closely with security management and assigned program staff on all aspects of special program security.

The position serves as the Assistant Facility Security Officer (AFS0) supporting the Integrated Defense Systems (IDS) Business Unit of the Intelligence & Security (I&S) Sector operations providing oversight of Southern Maryland offices and over 600 personnel clearances. The AFSO will assist the FSO in the development, administration, and audit of the security program for compliance with government regulations associated with the protection of classified material and export-controlled data.

Because of the need for consistent, in-person collaboration and/or the requirement to perform all work onsite due to the nature of this particular role, it will be performed full-time on site. This means work will be conducted on location at a BAE Systems facility 100% of the time.

Tasks include but are not limited to the following:

  • Maintain and enhance integrity of personnel and procedures required to protect classified and sensitive information and material per the National Industrial Security Program (NISP).

  • Track and administer personnel security clearances in government systems (DISS) and work with candidates to obtain and maintain security clearance records.

  • Interpret and enforce government and company security policies and provide direction and guidance to program personnel.

  • Interface with Program Managers and maintain liaison with US Government Program Security Officers.

  • Provide prime and subcontractor security support and direction including the development and maintenance of DD254s and security guidance.

  • Develop and revise program-level security plans, procedures, and instructions.

  • Provide classification guidance to employees, develop and provide security education and awareness training, conduct security briefings, lead security self inspections and audits, and investigate security incidents.

  • Support to other security disciplines within the SAP program to include: Personnel Security, Physical Security, Information Assurance (IA), Communications Security (COMSEC), Document Control and Visitor Control.

  • Candidate must be able to respond to after-hour alarms on a rotational schedule.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Bachelors degree and 4 years of experience or 8 years of experience in lieu of degree.

  • Active Top Secret (TS) clearance.

  • Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of the DoD SAP manuals.

  • Ability to apply the foregoing knowledge of government security requirements in a complex multi-level secure environment to ensure program compliance in non-routine situations.

  • Ability to work independently to identify, assess and resolve unique security situations with innovative solutions geared to facilitate contract performance within the bounds of security requirements.

  • Highly proficient written and verbal communication skills with emphasis on clear and cogent presentation of complex information.

  • Demonstrate working knowledge of the DoD SAP manuals and ICD series manuals.

  • Ability to manage time, make sound decisions, take independent action, analyze problems, and provide focused solutions.

  • Must have a professional demeanor, good people skills, ability to communicate effectively, and be able to perform in a multi-tasked, dynamic environment.

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

FSO certification.

SAP Orientation of SAP Mid-Level.

Bachelors degree.

Previous experience in Industrial Security and/or government contracts.

Experience with National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual (NISPOM) requirements and the practical implementation of requirements.

Familiar with government security program management including: Defense Information System and Security (DISS), Defense Information System, National Industrial Security System (NISS), and Secure Web Fingerprint Transmission (SWFT).

Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally and gain consensus from stakeholders on solutions to security problems.

Experience with Communications Security (COMSEC).

ICDs and TEMPEST experience.

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $64130 - $109010

However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
